It's been about a year since I've been in the PPC world, and back then I'd definitely have picked up an HP Ipaq 1940 or similar. Looking at the new line, I don't know if they're as good as they used to be. So here are my specifications, I'd love some feedback:

Budget roughly $300 -$350 USD.
What I want:
Ultraportable (hp 1940 size)
Good quality
Good video/music playback
PPC 2003
Wireless connectivity with no cost to size (wifi preferable)

I plan on using this thing for some organization, portable media player, wireless e-mail (important). Some gaming. I really want this to fit in my pocket with no hassle.

Are these reasonable wishes? Is there a model that could suit my needs?

What would you guys recommend?

THANKS

Everythings gotten bigger pocket-size wise since the HP1940 days. But with your budget a Dell X30 High (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=HX302YR&cs=19&c=us&l=en) might work OK. it's definitely a big box though. Maybe something new will come out in the next selling season which I think starts around the middle of this month.

Things are getting bigger? Wow, that's confusing, because I always thought things were getting smaller..

Wasn't there an ipaq that was the same size as the 1940 just a lot better? Should I pick that one up?

You're thinking of the 4150--dual wireless in the same form-factor. Still, I'd recommend you wait a little while for the Axim X50s to come out and see what you think of those.

The lowest price I could find for a HP 4150 is $379USD (Shipping not incluced) at Comp-U-Plus (http://www.compuplus.com/insidepage.php3?refer=nextag&id=1001617). You could probably get one cheaper used or refurbished.

Is there any conclusive evidence that the x50 is coming soon? I likely need to pick it up tommorow, as my old warrantied PPC broke, and I need to pick up a replacement tommorow.

Well, I can't help you if you need one tomorrow. In that case, I'd say go for the X30 high end, or for the iPaq 4150.

As for the X50, the rumors and some FCC specs say dual slots, dual wireless, optional VGA screen, small form-factor, and a replacable battery amongst other things.

<deliberately cryptic> Release date... sooner than 10/22, I think. </deliberately cryptic>

Congratulations on making Pope!

Not being familiar with the titles here, I originally thought this was some sort of sarcastic comment. :) (It's nice to know that I can gain that title, though, without even being Catholic. :D )

(Congrats, btw)
