Hey all,

I just moved from my old iPaq 3660 (which I haven't used for a while) to a Dell X30 and I'm loving it ! ;)

I'm looking for some software (for wm2003se) though (preferably freeware) and I was hoping you guys could help me out.

1) A good file explorer to replace the built in file explorer. My old copy of resco file explorer doesn't seem to work very stable on my Dell.
2) A tool that lets me browse networks instead of having to directly map a shared folder. Ideally the tool would let me enter a hostname and then display the folders that are shared and then let me map them.
3) A WiFi scanner for finding wireless lans.

I haven't used my old ipaq for a while, so if there is must have software, please let me know ;-)

Kind regards,

Ivan

I'd shell out for the upgrade to the latest version of Resco. That will cover 1) and all of 2) that's possible. There isn't anything that will just let you browse. Everything requires a folder mapping. Some things just make that mapping very easy...like Resco.

Try WiFiFoFum for your last requirement. It's free. I like pocketWinC myself, but the folks who put in countless hours to make it work well and efficiently have the audicity to charge for their efforts ;)

As for a WiFi scanner I have used:

PocketWarrior
http://pocketwarrior.sourceforge.net

MiniStumbler (NetStumbler)
http://www.stumbler.net

As for your Explorer needs I would have to agree with Sven.

For a WLAN sniffer, you can also try WiFi Graph - see here (http://www.kasuei.com/) for more details.

Total Commander For Pocket PC (http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm) is freeware and works fine on the X30. You might want to check back with Resco and see if you're eligible for the 2003SE upgrade.

Out of curiosity, have you guys used those WiFi scanners on an X30, or just used them? Unless things have changed, not all support all chip sets, and so don't all work on all PPCs. MiniStumbler in particular has a pretty limited set of WiFi implementations it supports.

I was researching Wi-Fi CF Cards for some one a couple of months back and found those to work well with most of the cards, but did not have a the opportunity to try it with a X30. But as Sven has stated there might not be some chipsets that are not supported at this time. But seeing as that MiniStumbler and PocketWarrior are free to use never hurts to try. :D

I'm going to have to check out Total Commander myself, thanks for the info Don't Panick!.

Thanks for the info guyz, I'm kinda swamped at work right now, but as soon as I get some free time, I'm gonna try out those apps.

Kind regards,
Ivan
