So, the past week has brought some fun things into my Pocket PC life. I got rid of my baby, my cute little h1935. Then I got my hx4700. Then I got a CF USB 1.1 Host adapter (http://www.ratocsystems.com/english/products/subpages/cfu1u.html). I install the drivers for it (USB Host and HID drivers), and plug in a USB keyboard. To my surprise, a message comes up:

"Unidentified USB Device
Enter the name of the device driver for this device. For information, see the device manufacturer's documentation"

Okay, I remove the CF card, hard reset, and decide to start from scratch (BTW, is there a secret to removing the cards on the hx4700? They seem wedged in there awfully tight). This time I install no drivers, just plug the darn thing in (since WM2k3SE is supposed to ship with USB HID drivers, if I'm correct [and also that would explain the usbhid.dll in \Windows]), and the same message comes up. I install Ratoc's HID driver, soft reset, same message. I install the Host Drivers, same message.

The message DOESN'T come up, however, if I plug in my USB mice. I can't seem to get those to work either, despite attempts at using drivers (http://www.deje.gmxhome.de/software.html) for getting a pointer working.

So... am I just SOL with a CF card that won't work on my device? Or do the WM2003 drivers just not work for WM2003SE, and I'll have to wait for someone to make new HID drivers? I'm rather new to the world of Pocket PCs coupled with either CF or USB, so any advice is appreciated.

I think that the types of things that you are plugging into your CF Host won't work on the PPC.

I think the whole idea behind USB Host on PPC's was the fact that you can get removeable memory (USB Memory Sticks etc.).

If you read the site (http://www.ratocsystems.com/english/products/subpages/cfu1u.html) in which you got your CF to USB card, there are no certified "USB mice or keyboards" on that list.

If you have proper drivers from a USB keyboard made for Pocket PC from the manufacturer, then you may have a different story.

Actually, the first on the list is the Grantech Virtually Indestructable Keyboard (which I have). Also, they provide HID (Human Interface Device) drivers, which should work with generic USB devices that require no other drivers.

Oh well. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I'll just have to wait and see if anyone else has gotten USB peripherals to work on a Pocket PC.
