thanks! this is cool. I'm not sure though, is getting a Gmail account still rare and cool and wanted and stuff? Not that I'm complaining, but yeah.

The novelty's definitely worn off, but it's still a lot more wanted than Hotmail! ;)

Gmail does sound intriguing and I guess I want one of the accounts when they become available, but what would make it perfect would be the ability to access it through an IMAP server. I am getting sick of trying to manage all of my various pop3 and webmail accounts and would just love one place where i can get all my mail and access it from my desktop, through the web or on my PPC. IMAP seems the way to go but unfortunately my ISP doesn't offer it and there do not seem to be any good free alternatives (already had my fingers burnt twice going this route: dubmail and fusemail).

Still if you ever have anymore of these going I will certainly be jumping on it :D

well now that I have had a bit of a look around my new email account I am quite intrigued - more by its potential than the current state of gmail. Really like the threaded messages and the ability to search and not have to worry about deleting messages (one of my biggest headaches).

Also interested to see that there is at least the possiblility of them introducing Pop3/IMAP support in the future (even if it is at a small fee I would leap at this).

I will definately be keeping my eye on how this all develops.

Just out of curiosity I am wondering if how many people actually use gmail as their main account or at least a one of their main accounts. Hell that sounds like a good excuse for a poll to me...

I've used Gmail as my main account from the day I got it. I don't think I've logged into my Hotmail in a month, and I've redirected most of my other web-based email accounts to Gmail.

Yeah, get the poll started. I'm ready. :D

Sweet. I finally got one. I've wanted one for a while and now I'm happy.

And I agree that it is very cool looking. The potential for not deleting and using that Archive sounds very nice. I'll probably start using this as my primary account. :D

Thanks guys!

I use my Gmail account for personal email - I redirected my oldest and spammiest email accounts to it and only 10-15 spams slip through per day (you have to understand that I get perhaps 500 spams a day to one of the addresses).

Nice! I do not plan on telling everyone I know that I got a new email address, but redirecting like you're describing. It's good to know that the spam filter is that good. While I never get anywhere close to 500 spams a day, I do get a lot and they're starting to grate on me.

I should clarify that what I do is direct my domain address to the Gmail account, then change the Gmail settings so that my reply-to address is the domain address. So people never know that I'm using Gmail, they don't have to update their address books, etc...

I just wish that it would change the From address with this. Reply-to is nice but it doesn't change the From. You still see "[email protected]".

Personally I use it to mirror the email from a bunch of accounts into one nice clean web interface so I can monitor it easily at work or on the road.

Any word on when gmail will work with pocket IE?

That really limits its use for me.

I got sick of waiting, so I have my own somewhat-useful Gmail Pocket (http://gmail.wiggster.com/), which serves me fine for what I need it to do (checking emails, rather than writing them).
