I just got my Axim X30 i'm so damn happy I could pee in my pants! :D
Anyways, I was wondering, seeing that there's an option to put any picture you want as the background for the main page, and I want to make one of my own so I want to know how large (in pixels) should the picture be to fit just right.. and how big (quality) should the picture be? Thanks in advance!

With a 240x320 portrait display scheme, your picture should be 240x268. Although bear in mind that you can make your picture 240x320, but you will just get the top and bottom cut off by the bars. For a 320x240 landscape display scheme, your picture should be 320x188. But again, for the same reasons, you can make your picture 320x240.

You will find that keeping your pictures at 240x320 or 320x240 makes it easy for when you resize 4:3 desktop wallpapers. But cropping your pictures to 240x268 or 320x188 isn't a hassle, so feel free to try that as well.

Cool, i'll make the pictures those sizes and i'll take those bars and landscape views into consideration. Thanks again man!

You can also try making your own themes if you want to "raise the bar".

There are a bundle of programs out there, but one of my favourites is still ThemeBuilder 2003 (http://www.ida.net/users/oe1k/programs/ThemeBuilder/). While it lacks a UI as such, it allows you to do a lot of tweaking to make the theme "just right". I highly recommend it and it's worth trying if you have the time.

does this work the same with an ipaq 6315?

tried using a picture as a background without changing the picture size. the problem i encountered was that the image would look like it was a watermark. it cant be seen .. wonder what i did wrong.

That's normal, though generally disliked. Using the picture makes the result about 50% transparent. It actually makes the text on top of it easier to read, generally. That is what the today screen is for after all. If you use one of the theme builders, you can do whatever you like though.

The one in the Mobile downloads at Microsoft is OK but it lacks some features and really hasn't been updated for 2003...but it's free. It definately has a problem saving the theme to your PPC (WM2003) but you can save to your PC and then just drag the .tsk over with ActiveSync.
