<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.imate.com/files/(09092004-221339)-PR%20CDL0025%20-%20i-mate%20announce%20four%20new%20devices%20in%20Aus%20090904%20_3_.pdf' target='_blank'>http://www.imate.com/files/(0909200...90904%20_3_.pdf</a><br /><br /></div>I got word today that Carrier Devices is officially going to sell two new Pocket PC Phones in Australia -- not only the HTC Blue Angel (aka XDA III/MDA III) that <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31481">we've been talking about</a> all along, but the new tiny (iPAQ 19xx-sized) HTC phone I mentioned <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31884">last week</a>. Confusingly, they're naming the units the PDA2k and the JAM, respectively (my main gripe about the amazing HTC hardware that's been produced over the years is the inconsistent naming by all the retail/channel vendors). You can click on each image for a large version.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20040909-imatePDA2k-big.jpg"><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20040909-imatePDA2k-small.jpg" /></a> <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20040909-imateJAM-big.jpg"><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20040909-imateJAM-small.jpg" /></a><br /><br />What makes this doubly cool is that I know the Carrier Devices units sell well globally -- many people make them available for exporting, as people here have gotten their previous i-Mate product. Add the fact that they're <b>both</b> quadband, and perhaps even GSM carriers in North America will adopt them. I can't wait. :D<br /><br />(Incidentally, they also announced two Smartphones today, which you can <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=41382">read about</a> over on our sister site, Smartphone Thoughts.)

I absolutely love seeing the i-mate logo on these things!

I'm still hoping for a USA release of the O2 version with the faster processor and 1.3MP camera, but I'll take this, too! :D

The new device was released as an i-mate phone. And there was much rejoicing.

Yes, but how do you *really* feel about it?

Indeed, very nice devices.

How much do you think the price of the XDA3 in aussie ?
In indonesia, I would say it will be at least USD 900.

Right now the XDA2 is still priced at USD 800.
Crazy.

An XDA2 for that price is expensive. While I'm referring to "high-price plans", I'm making a reference to the plans provided by one of our telecommunications providers as part of a "phone"-"plan" all-in-one package. You can, of course, purchase the units separately from another agent. I'm not sure how much the XDA3 would be, but when I find out, I'll let you know.

Pray tell where do you buy these gadgets there? (Jakarta?)

Yup. Jakarta.

Hitech stuffs are really overpriced on this part of the world.

Funny that there were no leaks on the jam. I am really excited about the form factor. I tried going back to a phone only and sycnching with out look, but I lasted and hour. The scrolling got to me. This may be just what I have been waiting for.

Crazy...my girlfriend's from Jakarta and she said the prices there are mad. One of the poorest country destroyed by a certain 'bank' and still things like this can be so expensive.

Doesn't any mobile phone company subsidised products there based on yearly data/voice plan contract?

Iīm really excited about this phone too... itīs the first pocket pc phone small enought to be carried all the time. Sometimes i donīt carry my 1940 cause i just want to travel light... i think that this little jam will be the perfect combination. And i think itīs really, really nice looking.

You know you want both... but at this rate that combination won't be announced for another three months and won't be available for another year. *sigh*

Did anyone else notice that the JAM has a Bluetooth icon there? If that has Bluetooth and it's the size of an iPAQ H1940... that will be VERY VERY COOL!!

Indeed, that HTC unit is supposed to have BT as per the link embedded in my initial post in the thread. ;) If anything, the unit might actually be smaller than an iPAQ 1940 -- it's screen is 2.8".

Sounds perfect to me!! and the smaller screen means text will look sharper. 2.8 is still fine, the p900 has a 2.5 screen and is also good.

I feel your pain my friend, I feel your pain...

About Indonesia, I was actually trying to ask which specific stores/vendors (in which city) are good places to buy these gadgets? Is online shopping also ubiquitous in those Asian countries like in the USA?

Things are very extreme down here. Last week's economic magazine mentioned that 43% of the population have below $1000 yearly income, and 0.2% of the population has more than $1 million net worth. Total population is 200+ million.

The 0.2% folks are the target market for luxurious stuffs.
