i use linux on this pc, and i dont feel like installing windows. i dont care much about syncing PIM stuff between my pc and ppc, but i want to install programs on the ppc. can i download and install programs right off the internet, or do i have to download them, install them in windows, and then activesync em over?

i havent gotten my axim yet, and i just want to know what to expect when it does get here.

thanks.

First, take a look at SynCE (http://synce.sourceforge.net/synce/). I haven't used it, but that's the one I've heard of, and it supports sync to a number of desktop applets as well as a bunch of utilities.

Second, once you have a WiFi connection up, you can download and install CABs straight to your Pocket PC (they can execute from Pocket PC's file manager). Unfortunately, not all vendors provide CABs -- some of them provide desktop EXE installers. The SynCE site has a UNIX tool (http://synce.sourceforge.net/synce/orange.php) to help extract CABs from said EXEs.

i had heard of synce, the problem is that ive heard people had bad experiences with axims and not been able to talk with them. ill definetly give it a try though once my ppc gets here(i cant wait).

about the cabs, then im pretty much set. i can just extract the cabs and email em to myself on the pc and download them off the ppc.

Apart from installing CAB's and PPC-exe files, you can download ebooks and update AvantGo over Wi-Fi. Note that the ebooks will end up in My Documents and may have to be moved manually (eg. iSilo).
