And, if you really DO say these things, you need to do one of two things: <br /><br />1) Get a life<br />2) Get <a href="http://www.handango.com/brainstore/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&productId=44939">Pocket Earth</a> from Blue Point Studio<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/adrian/pocketearth.gif" /><br /><br />Pocket Earth is one of those programs that is just chock-full of information and views. It provides all kinds of geographic-related data, from locating a very specific location on the globe to visualizing exactly when nightfall will come for that very specific location. And, it delivers this information in the most colorful, imaginative and captivating manner I've ever seen.<br /><br />On the other hand, unless you're a mapping maven or geographic guru I have a difficult time imagining what the practical uses of this kind of program are. Still, it is kind of fun poking around Pocket Earth's many views, just to see what you can see. So, I like the free demo; if you're really serious about all of this stuff, you'll have to pay $19.95 for the full version, which you can get from the <a href="http://www.handango.com/brainstore/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&productId=44939">Handango site</a>.

Just because you don't need it doesn't mean it isn't useful to someone else. I personally don't need a calendar replacement, nor do I need a time tracking ap or a medical calculator; and I've never used electronic wallet software before on general principles - but that doesn't mean they aren't useful to other people.

$20 seems reasonable if it works as good as it looks.

If you are travelling around the world, this app is a must have. I'm using it for years now, and it is always reinstalled before Pocket Informant when I get a hard reset.

Most useful fonction are getting location of most of the city in the world, to know roughly where you are going, and it's more natural to keep a log of your path on a globe than on a calendar.
For people who doesn't like to travel or cannot, this can be a great help to know where is located a place (to avoid thinking that montenegro is in africa for example, or sierra leone in south america...)

This is the old debate on what are geography or language course for at school. You never listen to them until you realise you need them 10 years later :?

It would be a lot more interesting if it was more like Earthbrowser from Lunar software which also shows near realtime cloud formations, earthquakes, volcanos, etc. Unfortunately EB isn't available on a PPC.

Good question. I think it's because it has an exotic-sounding name and is a place that most people wouldn't be able to ever find on a map. The name (at least in North America) has come to represent exotic, far-away places.

It may have limited usefulness, but this program is one of my favorites! It mostly supplies a 'Wow' factor for friends (which it does quite well), but I actually find myself playing with it out of curiousity for geographic questions. I think for $20 it does as much or mor than it should (despite whether it's useful day-to-day).

On a side note, it's worth checking out the Petronas Towers there...huge twin towers!!!! It'll make you go all 8O !

KL means Muddy River Valley in English. Nice place... loads of expats there. But very hazy now...!

About the program it looks nice but I don't think its worth US$20. Apart from geographical informations - I can't see what else this program can offer.

Didn't we have an off-topic post a few months ago that talked about U.S. high school students not being able to find the U.S on an unmarked globe??? Well, I like Geography so I don't have problems with maps. BTW, I just drove back from Florida to Pennsylvania non-stop: 17 long, and I mean long, hours!

(http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31709) Any further comments along this line will simply be deleted - you all know that as soon as someone starts criticizing another country, or the people in it, and making generalizations, things will get ugly.

This site is about Pocket PCs, not geography. Let's keep it that way please.
