I've had a few of their products and so far everything works without any issues - in fact my 512MB CF card has made it through the washing machine twice :oops: and still works!

Wow! I didn't realize how cheap SD cards are now! I'll have to let my dad know about this, he should be able to hold about a million or so midis on a 1GB SD card. :lol:

PQI have been selling that card in other sites for that price and even 30 dollars lower after a rebate. The main question that I had and the main reason why I did not buy it was how good this card is because I have not found any information about it. It's not the same when you lose 128 Mb of data than when you lose 1 GB.

I just bought Transcend 1 GB SD, 45x, Read/Write 7.7/6.8 MB, which means it's really very fast (two times faster than my 512 MB Kingston). The price
was 160 € ie ~ 130 $. Backup time (using sprite) goes to half !

I have a transcend 45x 512MB Secure Digital card in my iPAQ 4150 and it's fast as heck. I'd like to find a good deal on a 45x Transcend 1GB card.

I won't trust PQI until I see some read/write cards in comparison to Transcend. My Transcend was 3-4x faster in write operations than my Kingston 512MB card.

I've posted before about it and I'll post again... PRICEWATCH.com... does nobody know about this site or something? I thought all tech geeks did... they have 1GB SD cards listed there for as low as $102... sure thats the same as the original post but it shows that it isn't some unusual deal or posted wrong.... check pricewatch.com for everything computer related... usually you will find the lowest prices out there. Often times i'm surprised how cheap I can get something through there.

There was also another 1 GB CF for $70 after rebate recently, but this is the one I found first. There's also a Kingston 1 GB CF at eCost for $85, if you want a bigger brand name. Your prices on SD cards are quite correct, but you neglect the fact that 128 MB CF cards can gotten regularly for $5-$8, sometimes free after rebate, and 256 MB CFs for around $12-$15.

Do any of these places ship to Canada? $130USD equals roughly $180CAD but the best I've seen for 1GB SD cards on Canadian sites has been $400CAD, and only Sandisk at that.

I've been using a PQI 256 Mb SD card for a year or so. No problems whatsoever. In fact, my feeling is I've had less trouble (ie. none) with it than with the Sandisk 64Mb card it replaced.

Best deal I could find in the UK, for 1GB Sandisk, is $211 inc delivery! Not an exhaustive search but still illustrates the UK vs US price difference, although it also indicates that UK prices for 1GB has dropped considerably in the UK too.

It would be pretty difficult to "lose" data from an SD or CF card, IMHO. Most of what most people would put on an SD (music, books, photos, and software) gets uploaded from a desktop PC. So, if you lose the SD, you haven't lost the data. The only data on your PPC that isn't already on your desktop is stuff generated by the PPC, such as photos taken or documents composed or edited on the PPC. And of course, you would back that up by downloading it to your desktop at the first opportunity.

Good point! I worry about losing data forever (like when your desktop's hard disk crashes and you've been lazy about backups). So, for a trip, one should probably have important data duplicated on a second SD card, carried separately from your PDA. (I mean, packed in your luggage, NOT in a pocket in your PDA's leather case.) Doing so would be easier with higher-capacity SD cards. (Or put a 1G card in your PPC and use your old 128's for backup data.)

I didn't think of doing that on my last vacation. I've made a note to carry backup data on future trips. Thank you for inspiring me to be more prepared!

I'm not used to the apparently new SD speed labels like "45x" or "60x". I noticed though the 60x card states 10MB/sec transfer rate, which is the same transfer rate that the original "high-speed 5x" cards from Panasonic were advertising when they first came out. So 10MB/sec is now 60x instead of 5x? Anyways, so this Kingmax card is as fast as the "high-speed" cards from Panasonic, Lexar, etc?

Also the customer review on Newegg's site says the Kingmax is thinner than regular SD cards because it has no write-protect switch. Does anyone ever make use of the write-protect switch? Are there any other implications to the card being thin? Will it tend to slip out of the slot by itself?

These things just keep getting cheaper. I got the Kingmax from Newegg last week for $118, and now it's down to $109.99. I've been using a Simpletech 512MB one for a couple of years, and I paid $400.00 for it!

So far the Kingmax one is working fine; I hadn't noticed that it was thinner than my others, but it doesn't seem to be in any danger of falling out.
