Any of you guys that use the HP iPAQ 5455 or the 5555 units thinking of upgrading to the new 4700 series. I was going back and forth, but, one thing (which is strictly my opinion), that thing is butt-ugly. I like my 128 megs of RAM and BT and WiFI. Everything is working fine so I'll stay put for a while longer. Anyone else fudging on updgrading.

I just bought a used 5455 for $250 about a month ago. and put a 512 sd card in it and am still refining my application list.

I'm too cheap to spend more than $300, regardless of it's features. As for it's appearance, I like the angular, neo-iPAQ look.

I just cannot understand the touchpad on a touchscreen device.. maybe if I played with it some...

I have a 5555, my wife has my "old" 5455. I am interested in the 4700 but want to wait and hear from folks who have actually used it. The whole "less ROM, more RAM" thing has me a little concerned, so does the touchpad for gaming. Plus then there's the price. None of these devices are/were cheap at the time.

I am going to grab one but I am keeping my 5555. I will definatly give the device a run through. If it doesn't work well then back it goes!

PR.

My feelings exactly. Sure, WM2003SE would have been nice and the landscape mode even nicer, but, this baby is still the sweetest of them all.

I got my 5450 the day it was released and although it works flawlessly (never upgraded to WM2003) it has really become boring. I have owned this device at least twice as long as any previous PDA (11 and counting).

I considered the 5550 when it first came out but could not justify the change just for the 128MB even though I could really use that.

Yes, I have pre-ordered the 4700 and am patiently waiting. I don't think it looks that ugly and really my concern is what's inside. As long as it's ergonomically friendly to hold and use (and not bright red or blue or something) I can live with the looks.

I am looking forward to the crisp VGA screen and I think I understand the logic around the 128MB ROM/64MB RAM. Actually I was loading most of my applications in File Store before many on this site said that was bad and that the apps just ran tooooo slow. Actually in my experience, the difference is minor at best.

I also look forward to the dual slots. I don't want to get into a shouting match over CF vs. SD (quite enough of that today). I just want two memory slots, any two memory slots. My guess is that having two slots using the same media would confuse a device and that's why there are none (as far as I know a dual same slot anything does not exist).

No, the 4700 is probably not the "perfect" device, but it's the best thing to come along in a very long time.

Great recipe!

take an iPAQ 5555, add one VGA 640x480 screen, one new 624mHz processor, one Windows Mobile SE operating system a camera and voila! You have the best selling Pocket PC on the market! ;)

Or, if you're Carly Fiorina, you take away the biometric security, inform customers that while the devices are upgradable you won't release the upgrade just to be a witch, remove the expansion capability, knock it down to 64MB of RAM, stick with the slower processor, jack up the price, end up with a dud. and kill a once-bleeding-edge company! :D

don't forget about an expansion sleeve with:
the standard flip cover
storage slot for 1 or 2 sdram
extended battery
mic jack
usb port
louder external speaker (possibly)

I wouldn't mind an expansion sleeve that provided cellular phone and/or GPRS + extended battery
