How do they get away with such scandals?

Hahaha, definitely. But why aren't there ever any good deals on 512 cards? The cheapest I found was $55 for 512mb, which is still a really good deal (considering the 256 cards are still $99 at Best Buy), but shouldn't it be $36 if a 256mb is $18? Or am I dreaming..

I think the big deal is the amount of time that it takes to actually get the card....sometimes it takes weeks...lol

As for Staples/Best Buy or w/e, its moments before you walk out of the store with a shiny new 512er.

But this is NEWEGG. I have ordered a whole bunch of stuff from them in the last month. For me, shipping was real fast because they are in Cali and I am in Washington. Usually I have always got my shipment a day before FedEx says I will.

The only experience I have had better than this was ordering a flatscreen from buy.com (which usually takes ages to ship)....but they were shipping the product from a warehouse about a mile from my house.

While it may be true that the 128MB card is half what the 256MB card is, usually that isn't the case. 128MB is getting to be the minimum size, while 512MB still seems large to most people. Also, the 512MB are simply more expensive than the 256MB, by more than double in most cases. In a year or less they will be twice the price of a 256.

All the cards are getting really cheap. Here is a 1GB SD card for $119.

The day is near were CF and SD pricing are the same.

That *is* a CF card.

I screwed up. I was looking at CF pricing compared to SD. This is the price and link I meant to post.

It is $148.81 for the 1GB SD card. They still are really close in price.

Dang it, while I was checking out the price went up $3. I guess they're getting a lot of orders. It's now $28 - $15 rebate.

You can get the same card for $7 from ecost.com : http://www.ecost.com/ecost/ecsplash/shop/detail.asp?dpno=214779

I know you can buy from eCost if you are in Canada (they use borderfree.com so it converts everything to Canadian $ + taxes + shippng + customs, so you know exactly how much you're paying), but I'm not sure if the mail in rebate applies to Canadian residents too.

Of course pricing isn't about simple cost of manufacture. We're in a transition time where soon no one will want 128MB or 256MB cards at any price. They're just dumping them while there's still a bit of a market. 512 is still something that people want and so they're more expensive per MB. In fact, $55 was the magic price for me... I just ordered the Kingston 512MB at that price from Newegg. My 256MB card finally got so full that I'd had to move my MP3s onto a separate (old CF) card and this will let me get it all back into a single card again. :D

FYI, the kingston 128 is now $9 with free shipping

and

the Dana Electric 256 is $17.50 with $.99 shipping.

I went big. I can use the 128 I already have for just GPS maps. I will use the new 256 for movies and I can use my CFs for my camera.

That is amazing. I just checked pricegrabber.com and the cheapest CF 1GB card is $106. It seems that for 1GB and below SD and CF cards are about the same price. I know this is not true yet for cards over 1GB but I am sure that day is close.
