Is there a version of Pocket TV that plays .avi files?

Nope. PocketTV is an MPEG-1 player. If you want a good AVI player that handles the DivX codec as well, try BetaPlayer (http://betaplayer.corecodec.org).

But unless your AVI files contain DivX, you will have to convert them to a video format that can be played on Pocket PC (i.e. WMV, DivX, MPEG etc).

AVI is a general container format, and AVI files can contain video data compressed in many different formats. In general, those formats cannot be played on Pocket PC, except when the AVI file contains DivX.

i have tried pocket Mvp and it doesn't work most of the time.... However, I cannot get Betaplayer installed in my Pocket PC...what might i be doing wrong?

PocketMVP is apparently not actively maintained anymore.

For Betaplayer, you should download the setup file (betaplayer.setup.0.04.exe) from http://betaplayer.corecodec.org/ and run it on your PC (device must be connected and sync'ed).

you can also download a frequently updated "unstable" (means unofficial, not crashing) version from here:

for use on Pocket PC download betaplayer.setup.UNSTABLE.0820.exe

with plugins installed, it also plays MPEG-1, ASF and WMV files. (WMV on WM2003 and WM2003SE only)

Regarding skins, there is an "overlay" for BetaPlayer, but you would have to search on forums for that.
