I just got my copy of DOOM 3. All of these reports make me a little scared to play it. 8O

Doom3 is really annoying to play.

It's WAY too dark and you can't use a flashlight at the same damn time as a gun so when a monster comes out you have to put away your flashlight so you can't see it and then shoot!

Argh... Sorry, rant over.

Try this (http://www.fileplanet.com/files/140000/143916.shtml) (pistol only). In the mean time, enjoy Hello Kitty. (http://www.gizmodo.com/archives/hello-kitty-meets-her-doom-019130.php)

Somewhere there is a mod called duct tape, lets you use light and weapon.

Cant run D3. 800MHz with a whopping 8MB video memory.

More interesting in trying out GTA:VC first...

I'll add to this:

When you turn on a normal flashlight and wonder where Hello Kitty is.

On the topic of FPS, check out this new batch of screenies of Half-Life 2. While Doom 3 left us drooling, these new screenshots will have us begging for more...(more as in...more affordable hardware that can render such insane graphics ;))

I know this is kind of off-topic, but I could sure use some help. Two months ago, my husband and I bought a Dell XPS. Pertinent specs: P4 running at 3.4 Ghz, 1 Gig of memory, ATI 9800 XT video card with 256 MB DDR. Perfectly sufficient to run Doom 3. However, something is terribly wrong and I can't play the game. I loaded it onto the hard drive of the computer and everything seemed to be fine until I tried to play it. I clicked on the game icon and it asked me to insert Disc 1. I thought, "that's pretty annoying." I inserted the disc and the game went through its introduction sequence. I noticed that it changed the resolution of my screen fro 1024 x 768 to what looks like 800 x 600. Anyway, I start playing the game and about 10 minutes into it, the game crashes and I am SOL. I have tried uninstalling, rebooting then reinstalling, but the result is the same. Any ideas? I am VERY frustrated

I started getting nightmares, so I am leaving it alone until this weekend.

I especially hate it when all the lights go out, you hear that evil laugh and then the sound of something big walking towards you...

piper, did you update your video drivers to the latest version? That often has an effect.

No, but I will give that a try. Thanks Janak!

D3 is certainly a great game but it is too intense. There are just so few places where you can relax that it is exhausting to play. The darkness does have a cool factor to it but they should have followed Half Life's lead and at least given you a flashlight in your helmet.
