Rampart Chess for Pocket PC

Playing chess is something I've been doing since I was four or five years old and I always carry a chess program in my Games folder! So far, my favorite chess program is Pocket Fritz 2 but I am always keen to try out new ones.<br /><br />The latest to be released is Rampart Chess for Pocket PC v 2.2. This version is certified through Microsoft's "Designed for Windows Mobile" certification. I don't know how strong the chess engine is, from an ELO perspective, but the program is capable of playing at 10 different levels of play. It can switch between a one or two player mode, has four different chess piece sets, and a fully editable chessboard. Rampart Chess is priced at a very reasonable $9.95.

I'm a chess lover my self. Currently I'm using ChessGunies. The app has many great features. Mainly I use it because it allow me to save and load games, export to PGN files. It also allows me to set up positions so I can play from a specific point in a game. It has a good chess engine that is very customizable. I've just found it an all around great application. I have friends that use Fritz, but I didn't know they made a version for the PPC. I'll have to check that one out.

I personally use Pocket Grandmaster which has served me well as well as Intellichess for online chessplaying on the ICC(Chessclub) site. A more advanced ICC client would though be great.

The wonderful Hiarcs chess program, probably the most human of all chess programs, has been ported to PalmOS and is currently the strongest PDA chess program available (approx 2600 ELO).

Unfortunately no Pocket PC port is planned. :(

I find the chessmaster 10th edition to be a good program

BTW it's Elo not ELO for the ratings. Elo was (is) the name of the person that designed the rating system.

Good guess but infact the ELO Chess points are named after the 70s superband ELO and stand for Electric Light Orchestra.

So Kasparov has currently around 2830 Electric Light Orchestras.

Almost correct! :D
Elo is the name of the person who slightly modified an existing rating system. ELO, elo or Elo are all quite frequently used. For example, ELO is used here: http://www.chessbase.com/events/events.asp?pid=121
