StanaPhone uses Voice over IP (VoIP) technology called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and works with standard personal computers running Windows 98, 2000 or XP or even a Pocket PC. Incoming calls to a StanaPhone number are free and unlimited regardless of their origin or the user's credit balance. Stanaphone assigns a US number to every account, and users can receive calls from other landline or mobile phones to this number, on a computer or Pocket PC."</i><br /><br />The new version of StanaPhone includes two new features: call forwarding and free voice mail.<br /><br />• When a StanaPhone user is not able to accept an incoming call, the calling party can leave a voice mail message and these messages are sent as voice file attachments to the e-mail address associated with the user's account.<br />• When call forwarding is enabled, the call is automatically transferred to the phone number of the user's choice. <br /><br />Making and receiving calls with your Pocket PC is getting easier all the time. With all of this fancy technology, it's only a matter of time before someone invents a routine to trap the souls of telemarketers the second they hit your line. Just make sure that YOU aren't the guy who shuts down the power grid and lets them all out, ok? All silliness aside, has anyone tried this? Are you tempted by these new features?

I've tried it -- just last week... It works pretty well. I haven't used all the forwarding options etc... but you can definitely make phone calls from your PDA (at least true of my 2210 and Linksys WCF12)... 8)

I've using StanaPhone with SJPhone on my PPC now. I don't know how to make use of these new features. Is there a new version of the phone?

I thought Skype (http://www.skype.com/) was something unique and then you guys posted this (http://www.stanaphone.com/). So I got curious and began looking around for other VoIP solutions for the Pocket PC platform.

I found this (http://www.wifive.net/)
and this (http://www.xten.com/index.php?menu=products&smenu=xlite)
and this (http://www.telesym.com/products.aspx?page=client)
and this (http://207.224.30.102/talking/en-pda.htm)

Has anyone done a comprehensive review of the available VoIP solutions for the PPC and come to any conlcusions about what works best and why? StanaPhone gave me some free time so I was able to call a friend on a land line from my PPC (presumably via New York City) so I know it works. But, I've never found another Skype user to talk to online and I don't really want to buy SkypeOut minutes just to test whether or not it works.
