I used to be a huge Amiga Fan. Here is a pic from my apartment back in 1985. I was 18 years old back then.

There were a lot of computers in the room. Amiga 1000, Atari ST 1040, PC (286 based), and an Old Mac. There were alot of 8 bit consoles in the room also. C-64, Atari 800, IIc.

I have not tried the Amiga Emu on PPC but on Xbox it works great. There are some DVD released for the Xbox that are loaded with old Amiga apps and games. Deluxe Paint was a great app.

How is this at all W?BIC? It's no more that than an NES emulator, or Commodore emulator.

The guy who ported it is CeRiAl, by the way. He's porting like mad (this is his 4th released port, also done was Wolf3D, FreeSCI, and XRick, which are feature complete for the most part, besides Wolf) and currently out of a job, so if you know anyone, or can donate a few dollars, please do! He's a great asset to the community, especially gaming, there's usually something in my inbox from him :P

If anyone has trouble getting the emu to work, we've got a thread going here (http://www.pocketgamer.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3792) which has useful bits of info on how to get it started.

Dude. Please tell me why you would need to emu an Amiga?!?! That is so W?BIC!

Because the Amiga had a ton of great games? Chaos Engine, Lemmings, the 3D Construction Sets, Thrust, Worms, Alien Breed 3D, and that's just what I know, never having one myself. For gamers, it's just as useful as PocketNester or GNUBoy, and I'm sure a few people will mess around with BASIC on it, and the such. For something that is really pointless, there sure have been tons of requests for it!

Well, it *is* a bit more complex.

I think the W?BIC factor is Amiga on your *Pocket PC*. Otherwise, Amiga on a Desktop would be enough for nostalgia.

I miss DirOpus.

And having a Fatter Agnus. :P

It emulates the Amiga computer. You can run Amiga software on it.

FYI,

Amiga OS 4 for PowerPC processors is nearing completion. If you are near the Sacramento area this weekend (24th and 25th) there is an Amiga show where you can see OS-4 and an Amiga-Like OS called Morph OS. Should be fun. The Amiga crowd are always a bit crazy.

Hey, I had an Amiga. Back then they ran circles around pcs when it came to graphics and games. I always thought the Amiga crowd was friendly :).

I have very fond memories of my two Amigas -- including the one I mod'ed to upgrade the CPU to run an '030' @ 20Mhz! Back then, this made an AMAZING difference to overall graphics handling.

I had all the gadgets, too -- memory upgrades (outboard), harddrive attachment, etc., etc.

It was pretty cool.. I even wrote a simple project management app called AmiGantt. I think you can still Google it...

Let's get the acronyms right here. The idea behind W?BIC is to do something (very likely unusable in real use) just for the nerdiness factor of it, to show off to other people. "Because I can."

Amiga emulator on the other hand is actually useful, since one can do absolutely the same things with it that one could do with a real Amiga. Emulating something on PPC isn't really W?BIC, it's a normal thing you'd do with your computer anyways.

Boot up the PC-Task (PC-emulator) from PocketUAE and you've got yourself a case of W?BIC there. :D

Oh yeah, those were the good old days! :) Not all the same, boring Windows XP stuff - I had an ATARI ST myself. It's been a long time... Only had an Amiga for a weekend once - great games (anybody remember Marble Madness?), great soundsystem.

Cheers,

Were Lemmings and Marble Madness originally created for the Amiga? I didn't think they were.

Anyway, had an Amiga 2000 (I believe). Wish I could get it back from my sister's kids. I don't think they could find it. There was a great tennis game for it. Just loved it.

Does anyone know of a space craft type game. I believe you played mostly hovering around the ground but could go in outer space also. I can't remember the name but it was a bunch of fun. Maybe if someone knows a site that lists old amiga games....

Was it incredibly huge? Well, if so, it was a 2000. ;)

Yeah the old days. Weren't they great (they were weren't they???) Really! We had great graphics and top machines like the Commodore 64 or the Tandy line or even the IBM PCjr. How about those 8" floppies that the secretaries used to fold up and take home.

Oh, but my favorite computer was my Timex Sinclair (2k of ram, hooked it up to an old TV and loaded the programs with my 20th century GE cassette recorder. I think that we should leave these good ol' days for the beer and pretzels.

But my very best machines were (still are) my Dual AMD mobo with 4 gigs of memory 5 Segate 36gig scsi drives a Radeon9500 graphics card bla, bla, bla, yada, yada, yada. And of course there's my other 2 Linux machines with half the power and storage (my 64bit AMD linux box that I'm in the middle of building) and of course a server and a workstation for my wife. Oh, plus 4 PDA's. And all those PC's together (excluding my dual mobo xp machine and my 64bit AMD) still cost me less than my original IBM PC. Even my Timex cost more than any of my PDA's.

I got into PC's in '83 and even though I still have my originals I'm having more fun today than I was then. But I must admit I fire up my PCjr and Timex at least once a year and I have a blast but without the beer and pretzels I don't think that anyone else would come.

Ahh, the good ol' days.

Oh yeah Cobol used to be space-age technology in the good ol' days too 8O .

Marble Madness was available for the Amiga before it was available for the C=64.
