Just bought a 2210. No matter what settings I try, it seems that whenever I switch off, brightness is reset to zero. No amount of button pushing or screen tapping will bring brightness up to the setting I left it at.

Is this a known problem or do I have a defective machine - or, perhaps I'm not doing something correctly?

Any assistance welcome.

I have my h2210 for a year now and sometimes I had a similar problem with the case supplied by hp. I think the case was pressing and holding the power button which was turning off the backlight. Simply try to press and hold the button yourself should do the trick.

If this doesn't work... well, it may be defective :(

Good luck with this nice ppc

I've just bought a 2210 and was looking up this exact "problem" today. The answer is on google groups (http://groups.google.co.uk/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&threadm=07cd01c3b425%242007fd50%24a001280a%40phx.gbl&rnum=22&prev=/groups%3Fq%3D2210%2B%252B%2Bbacklight%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26start%3D20%26sa%3DN). It comes down to how long you hold down the Power button. If you "quick tap" it then the iPaq will wait a second and switch off remembering the backlight settings; if you hold down the Power button to switch it off then it will set the backlight to zero for some/no reason.
Hope this helps.

Really, it's a feature, not a bug! Seriously, once you understand what they're trying to do, it works nicely. The idea is that you can quickly and easily toggle your backlight on/off without navigating the Settings menu. If you press and release the button, the unit will turn off. If you press and hold the button the backlight will turn on/off. If you continue to hold after the light goes on/off, the unit will then turn off as well.

It happens because people seem to think PPCs work the same way as phones (ie hold the power button down for a few seconds to turn on/off), I've had friends do the same thing when they turn my PPC on.
