How to control when / if the onscreen keyboard pops up?

I have an Ipaq 4355 and I am trying to figure out how to keep the keyboard or any of the input systems from popping up when I open programs that accept input (word, inbox, IE,......). Having the built-in keyboard on the 4355 most of the time I don't want that to happen.

The PHM Ext. Keyboard PowerToy, part of the PHM Pocket PC PowerToys (http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/PowerToys/) can do this. Then maybe set that as the default PIP in the registry, and nothing will pop up when entering text.
