Of course, I'm a geek at heart. We will have to see how long the love lasts... First, as has been discussed elsewhere, the h6310 is built around the Texas Instruments OMAP1510 processor running at 200MHz. Performance was acceptable if not good. The h6310 has 64MB RAM and 64MB ROM with a ROM date in the tested unit of 2/13/2004. It was running Windows Mobile Phone Edition 2003 (OS Version 4.20.0 Build 13349.) Second, connectivity is provided through quad-band GSM/GPRS using T-Mobile service, WLAN 802.11b, and Bluetooth. According to HP, the device will be upgradeable to EDGE when the network is delivered and that is part of the roadmap for their PDAphone products."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20040609-HP6310.jpg" /><br /><br />There's lots more detail, so check out the link!

Looks good. I'm surprised that only two wireless protocols can be run at a time though. I would like to be able to surf via WiFi, and still receive calls on my Bluetooth headset. That would require all three radios to be on at the same time though.

Still, I can probably live with this limitation (which may be fixed with the final version). I still think this will be my next device.

Okay - I know I have ranted about external aerials often enough but even with an external aerial I think this looks like a winner.

Are we sure this is a real picture? I see a glint on the buttons with a funny shape to the arial that changes with angle, and it looks too real, so it must be a fake

Surur :) :) :)

Does anyone know whether phone-specific buttons can be remapped on the newer WM2003 OS?
One of the deal breakers of having a PPCPE for me is the lack of programmable buttons for games. Two buttons are usually used for phone functions, which only leaves the other two for programs and games.

I'll be a bit cautious here, and wait and see how the unit handles with the keyboard attached. It still has to be pocketable, and not break off, or be top heavy, or generally be a pain in the ass to use.

Ok, well we are finally getting closer to what I am looking for in my next ppc. If this had a faster processor and had the hardware support for the VGA screen, I would buy this in a heart beat. It finally has more memory on board which is good, but I really would like to see something along the lines of 128MB.

I guess I will stick with my X3i until the device I am looking for comes out. I would love to have an all-in-one device, but for now my cell phone and Dell get me by just fine.

You will never see this on Nextel, they use a proprietary iDen network. :(

I doubt that Nextel's customer base would justify the cost of making an iDen modual for the 63xx. We may never even see a CDMA version.

I'm going to guess that they used the slower processor to save on battery life? It also wouldn't surprise me if that's why you can only have 2 of three wireless devices enabled at once. The draw of having all three enabled might have been higher than the developers were willing to live with... *shrug*

Nextel does have a proprietary version of the Blackberry that is used by many corporate users, and is configured for Exchange server access.

Check out Nextel Blackberry (http://www.nextel.com/services/nextelonline/bb7510.shtml) It looks kind of thick but our company is looking at getting them.

Am I the only one who thinks this iPaq looks ugly? i700 looks much sexier.
Also I suspect 6310 is a little bit too wide to be held comfortably. I will probably not get one until I see the offerings from Asus or Benq and compare them.

That pen/stylus combo beside the i700 (?) in the review pic... What is it? I must have it!

After dealing with the ugliness of how the i700 behaves, I'm ready for a switch. Besides, I'd think most business folks want stability over the appearance of the device.

The device looks about as wide as the i700, which isn't bad if you have bigger hands... not so good for smaller hands.

I'd have loved to see a flip keypad for dialing on the screen, but no biggie. Still will give the others a run for their money.

I believe this (http://store.yahoo.com/styluscentralcom/pilpentrippe.html)is it. I have one, but I prefer my Rotring (http://store.yahoo.com/styluscentralcom/rot600mulinb.html) Quattro.

"I have spent an hour with a pre-production version of the HP iPAQ h6310

Nobody carries this yet. As with the previous articles cited from MTekk, this is not a real product: It is a "pre-production version" which is being almost misrepresented as being the actual commercial product. Pre-production = handmade prototype. Until such time as HP has significant quantities of a unit actually shipping to retailers, there is no guarantee that the unit you eventually purchase will bear any resemblence to the unit reviewed.

Now that is nice - must try to find one. Nice PPC btw

Actually, they do bear quite a bit of resemblence. It's expensive to go out and drastically change the design and specs once the hardware enters that phase..

So... this device can only be used through T-Mobile for cell phone use?

Is there a chance that it could be used through other providers? Verizon? AT&T? As it is quad-band I would think that it would support most all wireless providers.

Why why why

I was holding out for this H63XX for so long, and I thought it was ganna be a killer pocketpc.... I'm sick of being strung along. I'm not buying another PPC until the year 2020. Yeah lets see what they have by then..

Probably the *&$&^$ CEO's and "technical specialist" would have more sense by then. And stop taking the buying public as fools/donkeys with their carrot on a stick game.

Give us what we want you execs up there, or you wouldn't have a job for long.

Blutooth - Wi-Fi - Phone - IrDa
GPS & Radio
VGA
1 Ghz
2 Gb
Full Office Suite an then some
Detachable 1.3mp camera
SD/MMC/CFI/II
USB 2.0
we'll take anything over 8 hours with battery life.
Expandability

An these requirements would be added on with the current top devices currently have ie - Toshiba 800, H2215/5555 H6300, Asus 730, Mpal and XDAII and many other so called Top - o - da line PDA's.

Or will OQO deliver us from evil? :takethat:

I wonder if the phone capabilities can be used in different countries? Does it have sim where I could swap a sim that works in the country I'm in? Hmmmm? 8O

If the phone isn't locked, it should work. The beauty of SIM cards. =D
