Can you perform a soft reset with the power OFF?

I can not. Soft reset works fine when it's powered on. I've never had a PDA not be able to be reset while off.

Comments please? Thanks!

I just tried it and the answer is no. ALthough I can honestly say that I have never tried that on any of the handhelds I have owned, so I can't say I would know what devices are able to do that. Why would you need to? Wouldn't you want to know if anything is open and unsaved before a soft reset?

Interesting. I can do that with my iPAQs, but not with my Dell X5. Must be a Dell thing.

What happens if the device locks up in an 'off power' state?

take out the main battery

I know how to perform a hard reset. The issue is a soft reset.

That won't hard reset it, as long as you back up battery is charged.

Actually I had my dell lock up on me and poping the latch put it in sleep mode, which helped me recover from a lock up. As for it having nothign to do with a hard reset, try it for any lenght of time with your backup battery drained and see what happens kind sir!

taking out the battery and draining the backup battery has the same effect with a hardreset, except you keep your backup battery :)

kind sir!
thank you, i am triying to be polite
