Has anyone seen both screens? Are the HPs better, brighter? Thanks.

As far as the color, brightness and clarity, IMHO the average user wouldn't see a whole lot of difference...with some exceptions.

For example, the HP iPAQ 1910 has a GREAT screen, but the 4100 exhibits a color shift when you tilt the screen at an angle. I know one of the other iPAQs also has that problem, but I'll need some help from other readers remembering which one it is.

The only Dell I've owned is the X5, and I liked its screen just fine. So, I guess my point is that, with a couple of exceptions, they're pretty much the same.

I have 5 friends who have the dell x5, two switched to ipaqs ( 2215 and 4155). While the 41xx and 43xx screens are not as good as my 3970, 5455 or 5555 it is better than an the dell x5 and x3. Now I can't really comment on the newest dells too much. I've only had a chance to use one this week at cebit but it was hard to tell because I was taking a virtual tour of apc's both and the graphics of the tour were not the best quality. For the most partall the screens look great(much better than my 3600, 3700 and 3800 ipaqs) so it really comes down to the person.

I think it's pretty much subjective. I have an 1945, a 4150, and had an X5. The X5 seemed pretty dim, especially in comparison to the iPAQs, but had NO yellow shift. The 1945 is MUCH yellower at an angle than the 4150 and seems slightly brighter. Bottom line, my extremely unscientific conclusion is that the 4150 is less yellow and bright enough.

I also have the 4155 (after returning a 1945). The screen is bright and as the previous poster has said, it is off-color when viewed at odd angles.

If the HP screens are 'better' than the Dell screens, I will wait for VGA or jump ship because the HP screen looks washed out to me even after adjusting the brightness. I wish I had never seen a Palm T3 screen---yes, you may dislike the OS, but the screen is much better than any HP/Compaq screen I have ever seen (and I have owned several).

Best screens at the mo on the budget side belong to the Toshiba e400/405 wich is a steal at 199$ and on the feature rich side to the Toshiba E800/805.

Yeah the T3 screen is like a good TFT PC screen quality

The only compalint I have regarding the X30 screen is that when it sleeps, it freezes up. Only way to unfreeze is to remove the battery. This problem is not on all X30's but on enough of them that it has by far dominated the forums over at Aximsite. Only known solution is to get a replacement. Mine is coming overnight via Airborne Express.
