<a href="http://www.pocketinformant.com/p_iconsets.php">http://www.pocketinformant.com/p_iconsets.php</a><br /><br />"Pocket Informant comes with a huge set of features and a broad functionality going beyond the possibilities of most desktop PIMs. Despite being so feature rich, its user interface stays intuitive and clear helping you to easily manage your appointments, tasks and contacts. The ability to attach icons to certain items by assigning those items to categories or attaching an icon unique to an item enhances the management of your personal data. Visually, icons can offer you a perfect way to get a quick overview of your appointments, tasks or contact data faster than any text can do. Category icons help you to organize your personal data. As an example, you could assign a specific icon that you link with holidays to a holiday’s event. You will know that it is a holiday at a glance. A briefcase icon might indicate a business appointment; a shopping cart icon reminds you to go shopping. Pocket Informant ships with a small number of free icons as examples on how to use category icons. We have teamed up with some of the best icon designers in the PDA world and are proud to introduce our icon sets for Pocket Informant."<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2004/20040517-pocketinformant3dicons.gif" /><br /><br />There are two sets, the <a href="http://www.handango.com/brainstore//PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&productId=119987">3D Icons</a> (pictured above) and the <a href="http://www.handango.com/brainstore//PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&productId=120161">Square Icon Set</a>. They cost $8 each.

I paid about $20 for pocket informant. This does beg the question - How much is pretty worth? :?

I just Hard reset, and had to re-install PI. This time I did not installed the regular icon Pack. I am not missing anything...
So my guess would be: Not much

Not worth $8 for icons to me, but YMMV.

$8 Bucks for icons? Uh, are we getting a little too commercial? No thanks, not worth it to me.

I agree with above posts....the greed is astonishing! 8O

Greed? According to Alex the designers get 80-90% of the proceeds from each sale (http://www.pocketinformant.com/Forums/viewtopic.php?t=3708).

Apparently it's greed if you decide to sell something instead of giving it away for free

If Alex was being greedy then he'd be taking 50%.

Or maybe you should ask how the price point was decided upon?

It seems worth $8 to me. If it only spares me an hour of messing around trying to create or assemble an icon set that looks fairly consistent.

I would certainly rather see icons, which are bound to not appeal to all of the users, sold as a seperate item rather than bundled into the standard product. And I don't see the problem in paying the designer for creating them rather than having to draw them yourself, or find suitable ones in the public domain.

I guess that it all depends on how much your time is worth to you.

So why not check out my free Pocket Informant icons (http://downloads.svpocketpc.com#ICONS)? :-D

it may worth $8 for other people.

I didn't even install the icon pack in PI, I don't like the icon idea in PI at all. The only four icons I used is birthday, recurring, anniversay and alarm icon. PI is not blazing fast as people descripted, I just want to make it as simple as possible.

All I said was, it was not worth it to me. I think PI already comes with a nice selection of icons and to me, to spend $8 on another set of icons seems pointless. There are plenty of them posted for free on the various sites, even the PI Yahoo group, that if I needed something other than what is provided already, it is easy enough to find.

I do not have a problem with the designers getting paid for what they did and I tip my hat to them for spending all that time doing it.

Actually, you said a lot more than you didn't think they were worth it. Here's what you said that probably upset people:

That sounds like you object to them charging for icons (or at least the price), contrary to what you said above.

Some may find they need more icons, and the $8 is a bargain. I don't need them so they're of no use to me, however if I did, I'd snatch them up. Use your PPCThoughts discount!

Hmm... My memory may be going but I noticed these over the weekend and thought they were priced at $5 each. I figured I'd give myself a bit of time to decide if they were worth it, but at $8, they're not, imo, regardless of how much I use PI.

A bargain!?!?!?! HARDLY!

AF charges just $5 for their add-on icon set, and I'd call that both average and fair.

$8 is an insult to their customer base (of which I'm a member)...plain and simple.

How do you go from $5 is fair to $8 is an insult? Pocket Informant is $24.95 and Agenda Fusion is $29.95, so a fully loaded Pocket Informant PIM with icons is $32.95. Fully loaded Agenda Fusion with icons is $34.95 - both very reasonably price IMHO. :D

How do I go from $5 being fair to $8 being an insult? Because $8 is 60% more than $5, that's how. And nobody said anything about extending the discussion to include the overall values of the packages. I'm sure that's an entirely different proposition altogether.

I was referring to just the icon packs themselves. Well, no matter how you slice this...$8 may be an insult, or it may be fair. But I'll tell you what is isn't...and that's a bargain.

Where did you see the Agenda Fusion icon set for $5? The Xepox icon set (http://www.designsbybert.com/cms/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=24) linked to on the DeveloperOne site costs $7.99 -- about the same as the Pocket Informant icon sets.

Update: I think I saw how you got $5. On the Xepox page, they said you could buy Agenda Fusion and the icon set at the same time for $29.95, essentially getting the icons for free. However, when I added it to my cart, the receipt showed $5.00 for the icon set and a total price of $34.95. Sounds like false advertising. :?

You get 440 or 450 icons for $8.00. That's less than 2 cents per icon, which doesn't seem like an "insult". I know that you probably won't use all of the icons, but think of it as volume pricing. You also get free lifetime upgrades if more icons are added.

I probably wouldn't call it a bargain either, but I think calling it an insult is going a bit far.

I bought the icon set and they are not worth 2 cents each. They don't look very good. A number of the icons repeat and there are a lot that I have no idea what they are suppose to be. If you are looking for rorschach test for your PPC these icons are for you, if not don't bother.
