Looking for Calendar Replacement. The title says it all but I am not looking for a full blown PIM and not something that uses a seperate database such as Pocket Informant or Agenda Fusion.

I have been playing around with SuperCalendar but wondered if there is anything else out there that is similar. Any suggestions?

Calendar+ at: http://www.freewareppc.com/clock/calendar.shtml

I'm an Agenda Fusion fan and haven't tried the above but you asked -and- it's free.

EDIT 4/21/05: I'm now a Pocket Breeze user and have ditched the big name PIMs.

I started using Calendar+ after I upgraded to WM2003 because I don't like the way WM displays upcoming appointments. Calendar+ does the trick for me, and you can customize the view. I definitely recommend it.

Thanks for the info.
Sorry, I should have said that I'm not interested in Today plug ins, I already use the excellent tAgenda. It's purely a calendar program similar to Pocket Calendar that I can open up and get more information from, especially in month view i.e. icons for categories etc. Like I said, SuperCalendar does this to a certain extent but isn't much more than Pocket Calendar. I also cheked out UltiPlanner which is more of a PIM replacement but has an excellent week view. I don't want to go down the route of a PIM replacement though as it's overkill for my needs.

It makes use of the same database that OutLook and the built-in Calander, Contacts, and ToDo List that automatically syncs with OutLook on your PC when using the ActiveSych software!!!

Ditto Andy's comment for Agenda Fusion. It 'reads' from what's in Pocket Outlook. You add an appointment in AF or PI, go look in Pocket Outlook, it's there too.

Correct me if I'm wrong but these two PIMs use their own database which pulls the information from the Outlook database?

You could try Datelens. (http://www.cs.umd.edu/hcil/datelens/) A bit slow on startup, but a great little app!

That is a good app and I like how it is different but not quite what I am after - it's more geared towards those who need to scan through the calendar looking for spare time. I'll maybe give it another whirl - it's a been a while... Thx

I know PI uses another database for links and such, but the information such as appointments, tasks, contacts ... all go into the standard outlook databases.

PI/AF only use custom databases for data they can't store in the built in ones - if you use the built in pocket outlook apps you'll still see all the important calendar/tasks/contacts/etc.. data.

I use ulti-planner and i recommend looking at that one.
It is only ten bucks, just something else to look at.

I've tried out SuperCalendar, and I like that it's simple. I also like the ability to add icons (in the Month View, you can see through the icons used, the nature of the appointments you have).

but I'd like a Week View (which it doesn't have).

I'll check out Ulti-planner next.

thank goodness for trial versions.

Have you checked out PocketBreeze? I've been using it for a month now and really like it. Adds great functionality to the Today page.

There's also PocketDay from Cross River Systems -- it does more than just calendar, but the interface is simple and intuitive.

Don, thanks for that link. The site lists a $15 price, but there's a download link for an unregistered version. It actually appears to be exactly what I've been looking for: appointments and tasks listed together for each day. Awesome! I'll have to play around with it some, but at first glace it's what I've been wanting.

again, pi and af both use the outlook database. if i go into desktop outlook, i can see the tasks that pi makes. pi does do strange things to tasks, but only pi knows what they mean.

for example

i have a task that is recurring (not repeating) every 28 days. pi knows what this means. outlook thinks its a task called '|28 tasknamehere' that expires in 2999.

same database, pi and af are just smarter.

I might just play devil's advocate here :devilboy: and suggest that you do not dismiss the more powerful PIMS out of hand. Although Agenda Fusion and Pocket Informant may be "overkill" for none/some/most/all (whatever) peoples needs, the beauty of them is that you can adapt them to be as simple as you want, yet they will do everything you might eventually need, as your needs expand (and they will IMHO !!!).
I have not tried Ultiplanner but it seems fine. All use the built-in database(s)

i already have PB installed.

that's why i'm not looking for a today plug in anymore. i just want a calendar to replace the built in one.

checked out ulti-planner. looks ok, cheaper than supercalendar. but the icons are too small. just assigning an icon to a specific category had me squinting like crazy.

Amit at SBSH (Pocket Breeze) is planning something that may take us to the month view we seek. It may not be soon but is in the works. I've asked for a month view with icons at the Pocket Breeze Forum.
