Can anyone recommend a compact flash (not PCMCIA/PC Card/CardBus) wireless 54 Mbps 802.11g card? We need something faster than the Netgear MA701 11 Mbps 802.11b CF card we're using now.

Thanks!

you can use a PCMCIA>CF adapter but you will need to write the drivers for the G card, as far as i know there isn't any G cf card yet but as was posted there could be one in the future now that the chip is availible.

I haven't heard of an 802.11g CF card. Frankly, I'm not conviced current Pocket PCs could handle the speed.

Pocketpc's do not do 802.11g at this time.

Yeah, I agree. I think the only advantage would be that it wouldn't slow down the rest of the network... From what I understand, in a G network, when a B is introduced into the mix, everyone drops to 11mbps.

True, but that's only in the case of wireless access points that don't have dual radios - one for B, one for G. I think that most do, so it's less of an issue than you might think.

We'll see 802.11g for Pocket PC eventually, but not for a while yet.

Hmm, most of the APs I've seen on the market seem to indeed suffer degradation with B devices. Does the MN-700 have two?

The problem is that the CF interface is not fast enough to handle it, so it'll probably take a generational leap before this is reality.

I wasn't sure that it did, and I can't seem to dig up the facts one way or the other, but with both an 802.11g and 802.11b device on the WAP, the 802.11g device reports it has a full 54 mbps connection. Of course that doesn't measure the actual throughput - I just did a quick test where I initiated a 350 MB file transfer from my server to my 802.11g laptop, and had my Pocket PC active and downloading data over 802.11b at the same time. Then I shut the Pocket PC off...and things didn't seem to get any fast. Very unscientific, I know. It would be nice to know one way or the other though. ;-)
