<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.gethightech.com' target='_blank'>http://www.gethightech.com</a><br /><br /></div>If you're like me, you like small Pocket PCs, but bemoan the small batteries they usually put in them. I use an iPAQ 4150 day to day, but the 900 mAH battery just doesn't last as long as I'd like it to. PDAparts.com has what looks like a great solution: <a href="http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=HP1518&Category_Code=_41xx">a 2000 mAH battery for $49.95.</a> iPAQ 2200 owners aren't left in the cold either - the same battery specs as before, <a href="http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=HP1519&Category_Code=_22xx">2000 mAH, and a $49.99 price tag.</a><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/4100xl_series_125.jpg" /> <br /><br />The only thing I find curious about this is that with more than double the battery power (900 mAH vs. 2000 mAH), I wonder why they're claiming a boost of only 25-35%? Still, I'll take it! :D PDAparts.com also <a href="http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=IP">carriers an assortment of other iPAQ accessories</a>, <a href="http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=DELL">Dell Axim accessories</a> (including high-capacity batteries), and a whole whack of other goodies. Great site!

That is odd that they only claim 25-35% more battery life. I have the HP extended battery for my 4155 and it certainly feels to me like more than 35% more battery life. I have no scientific statistics to report though...

The HP extended battery is 1800mAh and includes a new battery cover that sticks out further than the basic one. It actually feels pretty good, but does make the unit have a slight bulge on the bottom half of the back of the unit -- which makes it tough to fit into 3rd party cases. Oddly enough the cheap stock case works pretty well with it.

I wonder if this increased battery capacity would address the power problems I was having with the Semson CF to PC Card adapter and PCMCIA HDD back in July. At the time, it was working fine in the 55xx, but not the 22xx series. This would be an interesting experiment to try...

For the 22xx series Pocket PC's you will have to update the ROM to take advantage of these new batteries...

Does anyone know if this 2000mA battery for the iPAQ 221x is the same size or not? The picture makes it look that way but the article doesn't exactly say. I just don't want a battery that will stick out of my pda. :confused totally:

Yes, it is the same size as the original...

I don't think it will - the mAH isn't the problem, it's the output voltage of the overall device. But I'm not an electrical engineer, so I could be wrong... ;-)

What about for the iPaq 41xx series? Will it add the extra bulk to the device that HP's extended battery does?

Thanks!

Good question.

Is the one for the 41xx series the size of HP's extended battery? Their regular battery?

Hmm..

I wonder why they are gouging 22xx owners for the extra 4 cents. It's an injustice I tell you!

I purchased the extended battery from my 2215 last month and I like it.

It is bigger then the original and is sticks out a bit, but not as much as the HP. The battery life is great, I did some quick battery tests and took a few pictures. Check out this thread to see.

Well, if the photo is accurate, this is a replacement internal battery, so it won't stick out...

Actually, I am guessing that the 41xx battery is the same size as the 22xx battery and in that case it will stick out.

If only someone would make an extended battery for the h1940. I'd put up with some more bulk in exchange for a battery life of longer than a single day. (The SanDisk Wi-Fi SD card is a real battery killer.)

Non-OEM batteries can have higher mah but still not have proportional battery life because of internal heat management. If the battery produces more heat than the original one, the battery is less efficient because the energy has been lost to heat. Common with replacement cellphone batteries.

Same battery can be had on eBay for $45.99.

I generally don't have an interest in non-OEM batteries due to some cellphone issues I had two years ago. I would rather plunk down some extra $ to get the HP brand extended battery and avoid any electrical systems issues in my iPaq.

From the webpage: "The Hi Capacity Battery is bigger than the original battery. A new battery door is included."

Per the Semson web site, http://www.semsons.com/comflastopcc.html, the compact flash to pccard card adapter does not work with the 22XX due to "voltage constraints." Since the battery only increases the maH I would guess it probably won't help.

So when they say it's built to the same specs as the HP battery, they mean the HP extended battery (ie: size) and not the standard battery?

PDAparts.com DOES NOT SHIP OUTSIDE THE USA

Sigh...

The only problem with these extended batteries is they all stick out the back and make whatever case you might have for your Ipaq useless.... I would much prefer to get the 3800mah battery from HP, but again, there are no cases available that i know of that will fit it!!

Actually, I got the impression that it was bigger from their site. :? Did they make a mistake on their description?

Yes, you are correct. I misread things a bit. When they said that the battery was built to the same specifications as the HP batteries, I assumed they meant the standard battery, not the hi capacity battery...

Oh well...
