reading word documents after 95

I am using an NEC Mobilepro 780 (MIPS and CE version 3) and for some reasong canot convert word documents after word 95. It does not recognise them as word documents. Can anyone help

Can't you open the older DOC files on a desktop computer and then save them as Word 2000 or 2002/3? Might not be practical if you have a lot of older DOC files, but should work just fine for a handful of them.
