Well, it’s a logical continuation along their Zire line of PDAs, I suppose.

The PalmOne spokesman said: "We are really targeting the casual traveller and forgetful executive market, as well as people who aren’t sure if they want a PDA or not. We believe that everyone needs a PDA from time to time, but in this busy day and age, who want to bother with all that charging and syncing? The Pyre is a sealed unit, so it’s just a matter of pealing back the lid, using it and then tossing it out in the trash." No comment.

The packaging system is apparently another way of cutting costs, as no expensive ‘blister packs’ are needed to transport and protect the unit. Pealing back the lid starts a catalytic reaction which activates the battery (non replaceable or rechargeable). The Pyres are deigned to be stacked like cans with their ring pull lids. Stack em high and sell em cheep eh!

The spokesman continued :"Our market research shows that there is a gap in the market and this unit is designed to fill it." Specifications include a low end Lizzardsphere processor, 64K of punched card memory and a non-backlit screen. The units are expected to be shipping "real soon" and the price is still unknown.

Well, it's certainly an..... interesting approach! What do you guys reckon; would you get one for going on holiday or using when you forgot your main PDA?

64k is just right for Palm. Remember, isnt Palm campaign that they are Simple? 64k is a lot of phones!!

I think it'd be a little bit more believeable if they were at least recycleable...like the disposable cameras. Maybe come with a postage paid label printed on the back so you just hit some type of reset button (if you're so inclined) and drop it into the nearest mail receptacle and off it goes back to the company for a "recharge".

I think too much about pointless things.

I guess the spokesman's name was something like: F. Akeman, right?

Cheers guys. I have no idea what you are talking about.

We should support Palm in their endeavour to go upmarket!

This, on top of the OQO Thoughts rebranding, makes me wonder if this April Fools Day will be a major product spoof one. Bring it on, I love the laughs.

Easy there, it's all harmless fun. Happens every year. No need to get testy about it.

Well, it’s a logical continuation along their Zire (http://www.palmone.com/us/support/zire) line of PDAs, I suppose.

Ouch  !

I believe it has a string that comes out the bottom to connect to other units in a form of new vibration transfer technology and an expansion pack that can get AM radio!

Hats off to Jonathon for this one! A lot of time and effort went into this and it sure made me laugh!

I thought this was serious for a minute and the sad thing is that we're probably not too far from this being a reality.

Yeah but it's getting a bit old ya know. I mean it was funny the first 2 times I saw the April Fool post on April Fool's but now that I see it like every flippin year it's just...not funny anymore. All it means is that on this day, I don't know what to believe. Some of the posts make it seem like a real thing like anyone heard of the Gmail thing yet?? I heard it on regular news outlets as well. I bet it's a April Fool. Granted, the real news outlets need to check their sources too, but if this Gmail thing is a April Fool, it would not be the first time something like this made it to the media! Sorry, it's just not funny anymore in my opinion.

Let me make it clear, I ain't bustin on PPC thoughts, it's just all of the PDA/Computer Geek sites do this. Makes it kind of difficult to pic the real stories. I was kind of hoping to see a original idea and thus far, I haven't yet. Dude you want me to laugh I better see something better then a photoshopped picture of a old Palm III! Like show me the newest Fuel Cell PDA.....a PDA thats as large as a desktop! :D Or take it to the other extreme and show me a paper thin PDA that claims 640x480, 1 GIG of ram, a 4 gig microdisc and runs on a water powered fuel cell! :D Make it ridculous or at least post another story later in the day saying ok we're done goofing off.

If the pull top lid was not ridculous enough, I don't know what would be. Plus, the first post, less than 2 minutes after the original caught it as an April fools joke.

I can't imagine why I would believe at first until the "punchcard" line  .

Bye, everyone. I am going to have my head examined.

No it was TOO ridiculous. I have to say I didn't laugh because it was just goofy and stupid. They weren't even trying yet! Now the post after this that says a OQO will have a 120 GB hard disk, now thats funny.

I am just wondering...is there going to be ANY real news here today??

You know... I actually sort of like the idea, minus the disposeable part though! You'd also do well to apply for a patent on the screen freshness mechanism employed in the picture before someone else begins capitalizing off it!

Yeah, uh, holidays are generally yearly things you know. If you don't like it, just don't visit any sites on April 1st and save yourself the stress. There are so many other things to worry about in this world, and goofy stories on April Fools day is just not one of them. Seriously.
