I haven't seen any mention of the recent (24/3) ROM upgrade that was released on the Dell Support site and then withdrawn again.

Have a missed a thread somewhere or has word of its release not been that widespread ?

I think http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=25239 is referring to the same thing... it came out a few weeks ago, though.

No, the .exe file is R74809.exe which is newer then the one mentioned on that thread.

This update appeared on the Dell support site on the 24th March, was downloadable for about a day and was then pulled. The current page has a message from Dell saying it was temporarily pulled."This release (R74809), is no longer available.

Due to some concerns from engineering team."

Hmmm. Not sure what to do then. I'd suggest we wait until we find out more; there's no documentation elsewhere on Dell's site about R74809, is there?

Not that I can find no. I'm following a thread on aximsite.com that is discussing it.

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?s=00e2002b7273d8044c564ed927cfd457&threadid=37051&perpage=20&pagenumber=1

I have installed it today, after performing a ROM backup, and all I have noticed so far is that the default today theme has changed to match that of a friend who purchased a new x3i (new enough to have bluetooth) in the last week or so.

On Aximsite.com users are reporting varying success with installations, but most problems are from people either not understanding what a ROM flash entails, or subsequently trying to restore a backup and seeing application failures (as opposed to installing the apps afresh).
