View Full Version : My new 5555 is MUCH slower than my old 3835. Why?

I've got a problem with my new Ipaq and using external storage cards (SD cards & Compact Flash cards).

Previously I had a Compaq iPaq 3835 and used it with a 2 socket PCMCIA sleeve in order to use a compact flash card (in a PCMCIA adaptor). The application that I am running writes straight to the card and the data is coming in quite quickly but the ipaq kept pace just fine. The PDA also coped with the pace of data when I used an SD card in the built-in drive.

Recently I upgraded to an iPaq 5555. This is supposedly a faster machine and yet now my program simply cannot cope with the same volume of data and my resulting file is missing much of the data.

I've tried two different PCMCIA sleeves (a single slot and a dual slot) and two different makes of SD card (Lexar/Pny and Sandisk). Simply put, the 3835 works and the 5555 doesn't.

Has anyone got an idea why the newer machine seems to perform so much worse than the old one?

Any ideas how I can improve performance on the 5555 in order to be able to write files to the CF or SD faster?

I don't know for certain, but have you checked HP's site for device updates?

Someone (on another forum) suggested the following:
there's a little bug in wm2003 that causes notification events to accumulate and slow down the system... free utility to clear them;
http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/ppc_cn_overview.html
Not sure how useful this is though bearing in mind that the difference between the two systems is so great and I'd have noticed if there was suddenly an extremely large file taking up the memory.
