A user at Brighthand named varlec is reporting that there's a new 22xx series ROM update, version 1.10.07 (English). See the following link for more details:

Of interesting note is the "Microsoft Adaptation Pack IIa". Any Microsoft insider ever hear of this?

And no, I haven't installed it yet, I usually don't install these things until they are officially released on the download site.

It kind of hints that the "Microsoft Adaptation Kit IIa" is a collection of fixes. Sure would be nice to know what they're fixing.

Per... ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp27001-27500/sp27073.txt

It includes the following...

ENHANCEMENTS:
- Adds Microsoft Adaptation Kit IIa.
- Adds Self-test.
- Adds support for the Extended Battery.
- Adds support for "Wake on Ring" (NOTE: this requires 3rd party software to function)

FIXES:
- Fixes the Sleep Mode SD power drain.
- Updates the Bluetooth driver to resolve Bluetooth lockup issue.
- Fixes iPAQ Backup shutdown after 10 seconds when a backup is scheduled.
- All fixes contained in Microsoft Adaptation Kit IIa.

PREREQUISITES:
- Synchronization software such as Microsoft ActiveSync 3.7.1 or later

Based on another post, it appears to include an updated MS Reader.... Mine has an update from October 2003 and is only running version 2.2.2(build 3143), but this rom apparently includes version 2.2.3(build 3205).

hmmm.... Wonder what else is "updated" but not listed in the readme.

Ok, the world wants to know.. (alright, maybe just the PPC world, or at least us iPAQ221x users :) )...

After installing the 1.10 ROM update, what are the versions of the following...

MS Reader, Bluetooth and MSN Messenger?

Is the Compact Framework SP 2.0 included? What about the patch to the 'SpriteWakeUpService.exe' (part of the iPAQ Backup software) as mentioned HERE (http://www.spritesoftware.com/support/pocket_backup_support.html#5j). Is it included?

As reported in the Brighthand thread:

Reader is version 2.2.3 (build 3205)
Bluetooth version is 1.4.1 Build 60

The thread doesn't mention the MSN Messenger version. How can I check that? It won't let me copy instmsgr.exe to my computer to check the version, it gives me an access denied error. But I *can* tell you that it has a file date of 02/29/2004.

The "SpriteWakeUpService.exe" file has a file date of 7/23/2003, and a version number of 1.1.0.6.

Those are newer... (good so far...)

Not sure how to tell either.

That appears to be the patched one.

Ok thats enough updates to make me want to load it :)

Exactly...
Plus they upgrade self test - now its looks better and you can check your charge and bluetooth light :D

I would still like to know what the "Microsoft Adaptation Kit IIa" is.

I'm pretty conservative on these upgrades...there is always a risk to do a flash ROM update.

From what I can see on the MSDN site, the adaptation kit is for the vendors to customise the Pocket PC interface with branded images and pre-set internet explorer favourites etc.

Can we run the rom update and then reinstall everything via sprite backup?
