It would be nice if the cover of the Aluminium Case is transparent. Well, this need to know was the birth of what I would like to call "Joparp's Modified XDA II Case", with a transparent plastic cover."<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/040316_08.jpg" /><br /><br />Is that not the most amazing mod? I never cease to be impressed by people who can do things like that - I'm definitely not the "do it yourself" type when it comes to actually physically modifying hardware. Way to go! :way to go:

Wow, that rocks. I think that would be sweet even on a regular Pocket PC. Plus, it looks really cool!

I like the screen cover on the Sony TH55. It's transparent, protects the front of the unit, plus it allows the user to still use the unit while closed and is tinted to make it easier to view in direct sunlight.

This one thought, is very nice as well. However, none will matter to me in a few months when the MPX comes out as it won't need a screen cover

This is precisely the reason I don't like cases, because the manufactures have not clued into the fact that once you put the case on extra effort is required to see what is on the screen. When you look at your PDA 30 – 40 times a day that gets really annoying. If there were cases like this I would be converted, but for now to me cases are nothing more that an annoying accessory. It is all about function vs. form. Excellent job on the conversion, perhaps someone can copy this now on a commercial scale.

So this design is similar to the case that HP throws in for free when you buy the 3900 series. It allows you to see the screen while at the time gives it protection from scratches or accidental presses.

I don't like cases because it makes it too bulky to carry in my pants pocket. Also having a case requires an extra step to open it when you want to access the screen using your stylus.

I carry my XDA "naked" but with a screen protector from WriteShields.

Yea, this mod would be great if mass produced. Not seeing my screen is why I ordered this yesterday:

I bet this also solved the problem of weak signal when the cover is closed, can anybody using the new design give us a feedback about that.
Usually you loose one degree of signal strength when you close the cover
This is my experience with it so far
Brilliant idea and execution

This is awesome! :onfire: If I ever get my hands on an XDA II ( the likelihood seems dimmer and dimmer) I'd like to see myself sporting one of these.

This seems like it would be a good mod for any Pocket PC Phone Edition Device...

As a guy who has done more than his share of mods to PPC stuff, I'm very impressed........Dang! Why didn't I think of this?! Off to the shop I go.

Nicely done dude!

:onfire: Wicked cool!

I just considered ordering an aluminum iPaq 3xxx/5xxx case to do the same for my iPaq 5550 (it would of course not be nearly as functional as the one in the review except possibly for wardriving), but on second thought it wouldn't work too well due to the small space between the top of the screen and the top of the cover pack. :(
