OK, I am destined to flames, but I've got to ask. ROM for the most part we can't touch unless we get an update. I've got a Toshiba, so that ain't gonna happen (I just had to.) RAM is where we load. Why then does it matter if a PPC has 32 Meg of ROM and 64 Meg of RAM versus 64 Meg of ROM and 64 Meg of RAM? Assuming MS and the manufacturer placed say 30 Meg of stuff in ROM.

I assume primarily for future-proofing. The more free space on ROM, the more likely the device will be able to take an upgrade to the next OS, taking no other specs into consideration. Pocket PC 2000 ran nicely in 16MB ROM whereas Pocket PC 2002 required 32MB for all features.

Also, non-volatile RAM or whatever the technical term for the file store on an iPaq is (other vendors have different names for the same thing) works wonderfully for saving critical data/programs during a hard reset.

Most PPCs out now have some of the ROM available for use as file storage.

Correction, just a little more than 24 MB ;)
