How many of you recall this? There was litigation against the CD industry for minimum advertised prices. You could go to a website and sign up to receive part of the settlement at www.musicCDsettlement.com. Well, I signed up as a purchaser of CDs and received my settlement todat.

A whopping $13.86. 8O

Still, better than the proverbial poke in the eye...

Yes, my $13.86 came in the mail the other day as well. Deposited it yesterday along with 2 rebate checks. All in all, a good week to get my money back.

What is this whole thing over? The site isn't too informative, why are the companies made to pay millions of dollars?

Basically the argument was that CD producing companies conspired to keep the minimum cost of a CD higher than it should have been (notice CD's dropping prices lately? Its indirectly because of this lawsuit - and you thought the music companies were just being generous). CD's cost the same, if not less, than vinyl records to produce, and eventually people got sick and tired of paying $10 for a tape or record and $20 for a CD when the production costs were the same.

OK, I got mine yesterday. I walk in and my wife is all "We got 2 checks in the mail and I don't know why!" Guess I forgot to tell her I signed her up.

What was the return address on the envelope? I have a feeling that mine may have been thrown away...

Don't have it in front of me, sorry. But it was postcard sized (maybe 5-6 inches by 3-4 inches) and pretty thick. Was a three fold letter with the check attached at the bottom. I didn't open it but I think it was one of those deals where you have to rip off the perferated edges from 2 or 3 sides.

Maybe someone else can confirm.

Ah! I don't think we've received ours yet, then. I don't remember seeing anything like that in the pile of low LOW LOW MORTGAGE RATES!!! envelopes.

Thanks!

I received my $13.86 as well today. I was surprised they sent me such a large check. I was expecting it to only be about $5 or so.

Yup! Got my $13.86. Bet the lawyers got theirs, too. I wonder what the multiple of $13.86 was that they received.
