I'm debating whether I want to upgrade from my 5450 to a 4150 but I'm wondering if the wifi reception is as good with no external antenna. For those of you using 4150s on wifi, how has your reception been?

pretty decent actually. i'm about 100 feet away from the router and that is with MANY walls in between and usually have no problem, sometimes i just have to hold the PDA upright, but that rarely happens..

I had a 4150 to trial for a few days and found it had excellent range. I was sitting in a cab and was able to pickup access points from buildings I was going past

I had the opportunity yesterday to unscientifically compare my 4150 with 2 Dell's with CF Wifi cards and a 3850 with a linksys pcmcia card.

We all appeared to have about the same range, and I had an aluminum case on mine that I purchased from Brando. The case didn't seem to make any difference.

Yeah i have the inno pocket metal case, and i still got exceptional wifi range.. all the way out to the bus stop on my campus which is a good 200 feet from the library, and that access point is behind a couple walls and some bookshelves! you won't be disappointed with the wifi on these.. it's quite nice.. and if you are near the access point, you can turn on power save mode..etc. and get some extra battery life with no noticable bandwidth loss.

Well, thanks for all the replies. You've convinced me, so here I sit with my nice shiny new 4150 in its cradle.

Great purchase kingfan!

Anyway, about the range.

I find it is better than my Linksys PC card in my laptop :D

Driving down the road, the 4150 was picking up home networks from houses a good distance from the street.

What do you mean by upgrading? and isn't 5450 higher than 4150? so it would be degrading?

I think the word you're looking for is downgrading :p

Well, the 415x has more updated hardware and is well, smaller with similar features.

I think if you are changing your PDA for a device that will be of more benefit to you then that can be considered an upgrade. No point in having all the bells and whistles if you will never use them.

The 4150 has a newer version of the processor and it's a smaller unit with the same wireless capabilities. I think of it as an upgrade, but I guess it would depend on what you're looking for. If you need the expansion sleeve compatibility, then I guess the 4150 would be a step back.

Ummmm... just for the record. I didn't say that ;)
