Yahoo now has their own search engine, and has dropped Google.

Check out this German site where you can compare the two....or search similtaniously. :)

To be more precise, they went back to their old search engine. ;)

I for one don't use Yahoo anymore at all, so it doesn't affect my results...

Neither do I. Other than Geocities and Egroups, what is the attraction with Yahoo these days?

I'm pretty sure Yahoo has never had "their" search engine. They've always used other search engines for their site. First Open Text, then Altavista, then Inktomi, then Google. Not sure who they have now, but I'm guessing it's still someone else.

Too learn more about the Yahoo search engine, I of course did a search on Google News.

" Yahoo was founded in 1994 as a directory of cool Web sites, but most users considered it a search engine. The company, however, saw itself more as a place that packaged experiences for consumers and sold ads. So it had other companies do the hard technical work of indexing billions of Web pages, which is what search is all about. That led Yahoo, before Mr. Semel arrived, to hire Google, unwittingly giving its future rival crucial early exposure. Mr. Semel soon realized that the company had helped create a monster. So he has spent $2 billion trying to assemble his own Google, buying Inktomi, the Web search software company, and Overture Services, the pioneering seller of search advertising. Last week, Yahoo finally replaced Google's search results with its home-brewed search engine, which uses a robot, called Slurp, to read Web pages. "

They most definitely have. They bought out Inktomi years ago, and switched to it. Then, seeing as how pathetic Inktomi was, they switched to Google. Now that they've worked in improving Inktomi, they've switched back to it.

This won't affect my web page search results, but I've just checked Yahoo's advanced image search (http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images/advanced), and they have some options that Google recently axed. Any idea why Google doesn't allow you to search for wallpaper-sized images anymore?

I prefer the interface of Google to Yahoo, but Teoma (http://www.teoma.com/)'s interface is the nicest I've seen. If I'm not finding anything on Google, I'll try Teoma and get some very different results (Teoma is owned by Ask Jeeves, but lacks the horrible color scheme and has a cleaner interface).

I don't consider buying someone and using what they had as using your own engine. And note that I DID mention they used Inktomi ;)

Google has Pocket PC Thoughts at 3rd if you type in "pocket" and Yahoo as us in seventh (even after sponsor ads)
