Have a problem with obtaining a proper IP adress for my h5555. I've tried the remove battery, reset trick to no avail. What happens is when I activate WLAN the iPAQ does see my AirLink 802.11g AP and the light does indeed turn green but the IP address assigned is completely useless.

IP Address: 169.254.17.184
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: blank
DHCP Server: 255.255.255.255

My Sony Clie UX50 works great everytime but for surfing the net the iPAQ is better. On that unit I can successfully obtain a proper IP Address and all that entails.

I've already done the WLAN and Firmware updates from HP so does anyone have any other ideas?

How about assigning a static IP address?

Have a problem with obtaining a proper IP adress for my h5555....

Default Gateway: blank
DHCP Server: 255.255.255.255

Addresses in the 169.254.0.0 /16 network are APIPA addresses (see http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/A/APIPA.html ).

Possible explanations: there is no DHCP server; the 5555 can't communicate to the DHCP server; the DHCP server refuses to assign an address to the 5555; etc.

Try assigning the 5555 a static address in the same subnet as your DHCP server, and then ping the DHCP server (using eg vxUtil).

If that doesn't work try pinging any other host in that subnet.

FIXED. I would never have thought of it as I thought it was possibly my AP or iPAQ that was the problem. But after reading numerous postings all over the net one individual suggested reseting my router as my ISP may be causing the problem. Whatever it was resetting the router allowed my iPAQ to obtain a valid IP address and voila I'm online.

Thanks to all for the feedback and they were great suggestions. And now that I know what range the IP address the iPAQ picked up comes from it helps in the future in troubleshooting.

Once again thanks.
