Do you swap cards a lot? Then check this clever trick an iPAQ owner did: to dig a notch in the CF "cover" slot. It's easier than it looks like at a first glance!

Page has exceeded its allocated bandwidth. It has been PPCThoughted!

Anyway, I can't really tell from this picture, but I assume it is just a CF to SD adaptor plugged in. I have one of these and have used it just to copy files from one SD card to another. I guess I could use my desktop card reader to do it, but the whole point is being able to do it while mobile!

Ok, we are going to have to restrict any geocities references since they all top out in bandwidth within a couple minutes....

By the time that the bandwidth restriction is lifted, my old brain will have forgotten about the link!

I dodn't think it's an SD adaptor Jon, I think he's modded the existing CF slot cover to store a SD card instead of carrying it loose.

But I would agree it's another site that has been "PPCThoughted!" :D

This is not an adapter. Although I cant open the website, I understand that this is the CF cover used as a case to carry an an extra sd card.

If that is the case, why bother wasting that slot? Why not just carry the second SD card inside the CF slot that can actually be used! I do it this way and I can have two SD cards actually working at the same time!

I know, I know...bad situation. Maybe we should create an offline version of the site and offer it to people if (when?) the site goes down...

Because this solution is absolutely free and might be preffered by somebody who doesnt need two cards working at the same time.

And possibly those who like to keep their battery power.

What I am wondering is why nobody has come up with a CF to SD/MMC Adapter. A CF card is more than big enough to handle this.

Isn't that what JonnoB is talking about? :?:

DMA1965: here's one you might want to consider. It seems to work fine in my Toshiba CF slot with various card types. http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/semsons-4in1-cf-adapter-review.html

and there are others too:

Some of those look like they are bigger than a CF slot so they would stick out if you put them in a PDA's slot.

That mittoni one looks like it's the right size tho. I got this one: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2986853579&category=18872 off ebay and it's the same size as a CF card so it doesn't stick out of the top of my axim. The only problem with it is that you have to take out the cf adapter to change sd card since the card goes in the side of the CF.

Actually, that's a simple and very cool mod! It's like a stealth carrying case. I can't tell you how many people are amazed that the CF slot is there once I show them that a blank is covering up the slot!

Great job!

We'd have to ask for permission and whatnot, though. It's complicated. We're not Slashdot, but we're slowly getting there. ;)

BTW this mod also works for Dell Axim X5's as the CF dummy card is large enough to hold a spare SD/MMC card just like the IPAQ.

That would be a perfect adapter. I've been waiting for either a US vendor to sell an adapter like yours (so no $$$ shipping), or for an adapter where the SD card inserts top-down so I never have to take out the adapter from the CF slot...
