Call it what you like - gas, fuel, "petrol":idontthinkso:, gasoline - we all need it to run our cars and pollute the environment. So how much does it cost where you live? Regular, unleaded "gas" is $1.69 a gallon here in Wisconsin.

I just realized how many conversions are involved in comparing US prices to Canada's... 8O

Just filled up this morning. $1.71 per gallon U.S. for regular.

**EDIT**

I guess it would help to add that this is in San Jose, CA.

Here in my town, it cost as much as they can get! :devilboy: Depends on which side of the town you are on, and the day of the week. $1.42 ~ $1.81. It is price gouging no two ways about it.

I paid $2.01 yesterday. I live in Southern California. The lowest I've seen anywhere around here in the last week is $1.95.

Edit: Oops - that's the price for "Premium" 91 octane. I have a turbo-charged engine, so that's the only kind of gas I can use.

At the MSN Auto (http://autos.msn.com/everyday/everyday.aspx) site, you can look up an zip code and find the cheapest & most expensive gas in that area.

That should answer your question!

I filled up Saturday at $1.81, for premium 91 octane - regular was $1.61.

Damn V8's that only use premium ;)

"Regular" unleaded around the KC area appears to be running from around 1.50-1.59 depending on where you go. I paid 1.51 this morning.

Last time I saw the tax breakdown on a gallon of gas around here, realized that there's only so low it can go. Seems like taxes (federal, state, etc.) was WELL over 50 cents, maybe over 60 or 70. It has been awhile since I saw it...

OK. :D Someone with the 'knowledge' figure this out -

UL Reg. is 0.79p - 0.84p per UK litre.

How many UK litres in a US Gallon :?:

I'm guessing $4 or so?

OK, let's see if I can do the math.

According to London Gas Prices (http://www.londongasprices.com/) Regular Unleaded Gas in South Western Ontario this afternoon is CAN$0.759 / Litre. That's Canadian Dollars. (BTW it was CAN$0.688/L this morning, but that's another story)

According to the Bank of Canada Currency Converter (http://www.bank-banque-canada.ca/en/exchform.htm) today's exchange rate is 0.7519 so that means that gas is US$0.57 / Litre.

One litre equals 0.2641721 US gallons. Therefore one US gallon of gas will cost US$2.16. Whew.

Gas is about $1.50 here in the Denver, CO area.

Don't know how many litres to the gallon but given the current Aussie exchange rate: We pay about A95c/litre of unleaded on average (ranges between 90-100c within a week). That's about 0.65US dollars per litre. So roughly $2.5US per gallon if my maths is correct. I consider anything in the high-90 range expensive for unleaded petrol. 98 octane fuel usually retails around A$100/L.

Can't help but mention half of what we pay for petrol goes towards the government as excise duty.

You guys are spoiled rotten.

Here in Germany gas costs around 1.05Euro/liter..

1.05 Euro/liter x $ 1.2672/Euro x 3.7854118 Liter/Gallon = $ 5.04/Gallon

Can anyone else beat $5.04/gallon?

Well, according to Video11 gas in London is US$4,54 per gallon regular.
According to rhmorrison in Germany it's US$3,97.

In Portugal it's US$3,64.

But our cars get a better mpg ratio than those hog-sucking-us-mammoth engines. My car has a tank of 42 litres (11 gallons) and goes 550Km (340 miles) with them. That's 30 miles per gallon! And we have cars here that get as much as 60 miles per gallon.

So, In all I think we pay more-or-less the same for travelling the same distance.

Here in Okinawa Japan, gas is about 99 yen per liter, at an exchange rate of 103 yen / dollar, that's about $0.97, times 3.8 liters per gallon = $3.76 per gallon.

As far as gas mileage goes, my tank holds roughly 12 gallons and I get about 250 to 300 km on a tank (about 150 to 180 miles). That's about 13.5 miles per gallon for a family car.

I have to admit, though, that the majority of my gas is wasted waiting for the ridiculous lights and absurd traffic. For example, from my house to Naha Airport, it's roughly 18 miles... it's a 60 to 75 minute trip with minimal traffic. It can take upwards of two hours during 'rush hour'.

Ok, I pay about € 1 per litre, so as calculated before that should be around $ 5 / gallon (I live in Belgium, Europe).

A more interesting question though is, how much do you pay per week/month ?

My tank (renault clio 1.2 liter engine) is 45 litres, I tank when there's about 3 litres left (I like seeing the empty light blink on my dashboard ;)) and I get about 500 Km on one tank, depending on how much traffic I've had (Belgium is actually one large traffic jam, the fact that we call our roads 'speedways' is just part of the illusion  ).

So, a full gas tank gets me by over 500 Km which is good enough for one fill-up per week. 42 litres * 1 € = 42 € per week. 42 € / week * 4 weeks / month = 168 € / month, if I'm not mistaken, that would be about $ 132 / month.

American's get cheap gas, but the engines aren't very sufficient, so maybe it's more fun to compare on how much we actually spend.

Ivan

Btw, price quoted is for 95+ octane-level fuel, 98 is more expensive, diesel is less expensive....what kind of petrol do americans tank ?

So those of us with European engines get a pretty good deal! I have the 1.8t VW/Audi engine. 8)

I wouldn't go as far and say that all american cars have wastefull engines (just like european or oriental engines can be thirsty), but they do have the history. Motor engines have evolved alot, but I do think that US car still have the 'bigger is better' motto ;)

How could gas be that much there when that is where it comes from????

Oh, I think gas is $1.65 here. It depends where you go. Sheetz always has it ten cents cheaper.
