I just replaced my desktop, and my new box came with a trial of Office 2003 Standard (I had been using 2000 Pro). Unfortunately, whenever I try to sync I get a message that either my client (Outlook 2003) isn't set as the default e-mail client (it is) or it can't access the necessary data. What's up with that? Anyone have any ideas (other than re-install Office2K)?

Thanks for your help

I'm running AS 3.71 and Outlook 2003 Pro. I have not had any issues, in fact it seems rock solid. Do you have any other email clients set up on your machine?

The only other client I'm aware of is Outlook Express, which co-existed just fine on my last machine.

I found that I had to uninstall & reinstall Activesync after I installed Office 03, then everything worked OK. You probably want to try that.

That may be it as I rebuilt my PC so Office 2003 was on before installing AS.

Actually, I uninstalled and then rolled back to AS3.7. Still have the same problem. It seems, however, that the problem may reside in the way Office 2003 was installed. Apparently there are several missing or currupted files. So, now I have to decide between going back to Office2K or paying for a retail version of 2003 now instead of probably doing so 2 months from now. (It would have been nice to be able to check it out before making the decision but...oh well.) Anyone have any thoughts on 2K vs. 2003?

Anyway, thanks to all who replied so far for your help.

I like 2003 much better personally. The new Outlook is a great improvement at least as far as the GUI goes and there are some nice little bells and whistles with the other apps as well. However, if you're doing only 'run of the mill' stuff, aside from having the latest and greatest, there's not really much reason to spend the cash. Of course, using that philosophy, there hasn't been much reason to upgrade from Office 5.0.
