http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/

Microsoft has announced seven new Mobile Devices MVPs, and I'm delighted to report that our very own Janak Parekh is among them. Way to go Janak! Here's a list of the new MVPs - you'll recognize most of the names, because these are the people who make the Pocket PC and Smartphone world tick!

Dave Evans - pocketpcpassion.com
Eric Hicks - PPC newsgroups/forums
Shawna Kelly - San Francisco User Group
Jenneth Orantia - jenneth.info
Janak Parekh - pocketpcthoughts.com
Andrew Shuttleworth - pocketpcjapan.com
Don Sorcinelli - bostonpocketpc.com

Not sure what an MVP is or does? Check out this link. I've been an MVP since 1997, and am technically the "oldest" Mobile Devices MVP (we were called Windows CE MVPs back then), so I've seen the program grow from five to over 30 MVPs (I'm not even sure how many there are now). The MVP program is a voluntary program that rewards people for their efforts in help others, and I'm proud to be a part of a group with people who are so passionate about their mobile devices. :-)

Congratulations, Janak! I remember being surprised to find that you were NOT an MVP! Glad to see that Microsoft has rectified the situation.

Plus, now you'll have the chance to be as "venerable" as Jason some day...

I thought you were already one, Janak! :D Congratulations on the new title!

How often does MS communicate with it's mobile MVPs? Do you just meet once a year?

Meet about once a year, but MS talks to us daily in one form or another, often in a private newsgroup or via email. Heck, we IM with them. Private chats, web casts...

MS is very communicative with the MVPs and quite supportive of the program at all levels.

Thanks for the compliments guys! I appreciate it. :D And congrats to the rest.

MS is an amazingly communicative organization, period. We're hosting several Microsoft research guys here today (nothing to do with MVP, although they got word of it too... 8O)

I believe it's an annual appointment, so for existing MVPs, you either get renewed or retired. ;)

I wasn't renewed - the past MVP year (which was October-September), I was on strike for 7 weeks, then 4 months later given layoff notice. Suffice it to say, it wasn't a good year :? so the time I put forward as an MVP waned - after all that, I needed to find myself again.

I'm still helping people out - you'll find me answering questions in the microsoft.public.pocketpc.activesync newsgroup (yes, I am a glutton for punishment :devilboy: )

Thanks :) I do what I can. Everything got screwed up in that year, but I'm back to doing what I love: helping others.

(I've always had this weird "helping out for free thing" - guess I somehow inherited it from my parents. I volunteer at other functions and events as well outside of the computer world... is there something wrong with me? )

I could get on a rather large soap box here, but I'll leave it with a simple response. No. There's nothing wrong with you. More of us should be so "wrong."

I guess one of the reasons is I have time to spare... one of the advantages of being single with no children
