View Full Version : What happened to my SD card?

I was watching a movie off of the SD card on my Axim when it froze. After I performed a soft reset I noticed that the movie I was watching and the folder it was in, the only two things on the card, had been replaced with a bunch of files and empty folders with weird names. All of the files that I looked at have impossible sizes (many in the GB range.) What happened to my card and how can I fix it?

A similar thing happened to me and led me to start this thread (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16942) last August. Best case, it's just file system corruption and you can format the card and copy data back to it. Worst case, the card is dead and you get to try a warranty replacement. (I'm assuming it's still under warranty.)

In my case, I was playing a WMA file in Media Player while searching for a street address in Mapopolis (http://www.mapopolis.com/). Both apps were accessing data from the SD card simultaneously. The iPAQ locked up and after a soft reset, I was greeted with what you see in the screenshot in the thread linked above. I'd suggest formatting the card again. If that doesn't work or if the corruption occurs a second time, get it replaced under warranty if possible.
