k i use netuse and pocketmvp to stream movies to my ipaq, and it works fine. the only problem is that when I am streaming a big movie (more than 20 megs), the playback interrupts every few minutes to download more and then it stops to dl. so instead of keeping downloading it pauses causing interruption in the playback. btw I have the cached turned on all the way, but that marginally helps only and doesnt resolve completely the problem.
how do I fix this, is quite annoying having interruptions?
thx in advance

What's “netuse”?

Sounds like a bandwidth bottleneck—try turning down the bitrate of the stream.

I know that fixing the bitrate would work fine. but the point of this is to run unoptimized movies from my desktop. if it kept streaming all the time it would work fine sigh!

netuse is a program used to mount network shares
you can get it here

What format and size (in pixels) are the videos you are trying to stream?

And you need to ask why your computer is choking on streaming the video...?

not my pc, my ppc :) but I think if it would keep streaming it would work without converting. I get lots of stuff Id like to stream and it is WAY to much work to convert it all. beside I hate not been able to use my maching for cpu intensive stuff while encoding...

Try streaming the movie through Windows Media Encoder... at a bit rate of about 300kbps... at 320x240... It does an ok job... without any of the problems that you are having...

I have only streamed a TV signal... but a video should not be any different...

i thought about doing that but then I will still have to encode everything to wmv. thx for the help man

Let me look at it and get back to you...

Ok.. just to follow-up.. you do not need to re-encode your video in order to stream it. All you need to do is to setup a Broadcast through Windows Media Encoder 9... choose the file you wish to broadcast and away you go... You are not required to keep the file that you are encoding (streaming...)

I just checked to make sure that it could be done... I just streamed an mpg to my PPC without any problems... the settings for the broadcast were 282kbps 320x240 @ 29.97 fps

What I would like is to be able to put a DVD in my server (or any PC on our network at home) and be able to watch it on my hp5450.

I take it that there isn't a pushbutton solution for this?

If there isn't, do I have to get into all that MS stuff?
