Hi there

I've got a Belkin Router/Wireless AP device. It's connected to my Motorola Surfboard 4200 cable modem which is, in turn connected to my ISP. All works nicely.

The router is easily configured through its own web interface as is the cable modem.

My problem is that I can't connect to the cable modem's internal diagnostics while it's connected to the router.

So - Router address 192.168.2.1
Cable modem address 192.168.100.1 when I directly connect it to my PC

How do I work out the cable modem's IP address so that I can look at its confog and diagnostics while it's connected to the router?

TIA

I have a D-Link and the same Modem. I am able to connect to the modem through the router without any problems. Are you sure you haven't set something up on the router to prevent you from accessing the modem???

Grasping at straws here. Do you have your subnet masks set to 255.255.255.0 or 255.255.0.0? The second would put both the 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.100.1 in the same subnet and not route packets to the modem out the WAN port of the router. The first mask should cause the router to send a modem destined packet out the Wan port, unless the Belkin is specifically designed to not forward private IP addresses. Either subnet mask would allow everything to work internally.

AFAIK, the Belkin will not forward private IP's...

Set your subnet mask to 255.255.255.128. Then it should work.

That is a distinct possibility. Did you find that in a spec somewhere? You say you can do it with your DLink, and I can confirm that my Linksys will.

I seem to remember reading it on a spec *somewhere*... I'll have to look around for it though...

Thanks for you help here folks.

I've tried the various suggestions but it looks like the only way I can access my cable modem's config is to directly connect it to a PC.

For the odd occassion when I need to do this I think I'll drag out my old Toshiba Libretto and use that.
