With this new v0.8.011804 release PocketMVP now supports normally encoded FULL SCREEN VIDEOS!! We have tested 800kbit DivX / 24fps at 640X252 with 64bit audio and NO drops! Is there a catch... lol... there always is. Currently this is only supported with the new ATI 3200 interface on the G1000 or the E80x. But think about it.... no more re-encoding is needed! There are tons of other fixes that you can read in the changelog."<br /><br />The newest version can be downloaded from the link above or from the regular <a href="www.pocketmvp.com">PocketMVP</a> site. I'm tempted to try the 640x252 video on an e805 running at 480x640...

Wow. Very impressive. Typically I encode (my own DVDs) at ~1000 kbps DivX for video and ~160 kbps for audio (MP3). I have not bothered encoding for PPC since I would just watch the result file on my iBook but the thought of not needing to do a separating encoding is certainly very interesting technically speaking.

Although, I would need a storage media that is > 1 GB (that I can afford) to hold that resulting DivX file....

Yet another reason the e805 is the best PPC by far. 8)

FYI - Amazon has the e805 for $509.99 shipped:

Why WOULDN'T you reencode though? I mean yeah it's nice and all, but lets see, you can reencode so it only takes 200 MB for a full movie with no noticable difference, or you can put an 800MB movie on there.. hmm..

Unless you have the 1GB SanDisk SD (or similar sized CF) posted earlier it's not much use.

Yeah, you can hook up USB hard drives. That's not the most portable solution though. By that point you might as well buy one of those 20 GB multimedia jukebox things.

IMO of course. ;)

It's cool, but I'm still gonna reencode anyways..

Think outside the box. Later this year or early next year we'll likely have a PPC with an 800MHz processor and built-in 4GB hard drive.
Also, 2-4 GB CF cards are dropping in price fast. Aren't you glad the best video player is going to be ready for the future. We should all thank the e805 for pushing the envelope. Better yet, we should all thank Toshiba.

Let's not turn this into a device war...

Some posts were split off and moved here... (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=23436)

Ahh, young padawan, you under estimate the power of laziness, procrastination, and a slooow PC.

Hey since this post is up here... I have been having some problems with my audio being out of sync when using virtualDub... does anyone have a solution...? I did read about the problem somewhere but can not find the solution...

And I have searched both Corecodec and PocketMayo...

Try saving the audio file as a wav and then re-encode it as MP3. Check out the multimedia forum - someone had almost exactly the same question a few weeks ago. Good luck!

Can any iPAQ H545x owner confirm that PocketMVP stutters and hickups when using it with the WM2003 upgrade?

What frequency are you trying to convert your sound to? I've only had this issue when trying to downmix my sound to lower frequencies. Now, I only use 96Kbps 44.1Khz stereo sound and it always works great.

Surgical Snack's suggestion is also good. I always use HeadAC3he to convert my AC files to WAV files and then let VDub do the encoding to MP3.

I have seen this when I use Dr. Divx to encode. What I do is use VirtualDub to save the WAV off of the encoded video. Then compare the lengths (time) of the files (WAV and AVI) using the properties (or playing them with Windows Media Player), if the lenghts are different, trim the video in VirtualDub by changing the end offset (in ms) in the select range (in the video menu), then resave as a new AVI (F7). A little trial and error will get the audio and video in snyc. One note, the original video does not have sync problems on my desktop, only my iPaq, so you have to compare the WAV and AVI lenghts.

Hope this helps.

Wow! Cool! I just wish that I had a device that could take advantage of it. I don't seem to be able to get video playback working on my MobilePro--just the audio plays (Casio e10x version of PMVP)

Ripper014,
You might want to try VirtualDubMod (http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/), as it allows you to decline to fix the headers on VBR MP3 audio when VirtualDub doesn't like them (I think that's what SurgicalSnack is getting at).

EDIT: Oops, a double negative.

it is sad when your ppc is out-ranking your pc. also shows what devices we are willing to spend our money on... :)

i look forward to full screen vga video on my ppc, but since i plunked down $$ for a 5555 i won't get to upgrade for a long while...

My desktop is top-notch, but I do spend much, much more time on my PPC and laptop. You can't lie in bed or sit on the sofa while watching TV and use your desktop. :)
