JGUI Releases Phone Profiles 5.0

This functionality isn't built into PPCPE, but JGUI has continued to evolve their tool to give Pocket PC Phones this functionality.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20040117-JGUIPhoneProfiles.jpg" /><br /><br />It comes with four predefined profiles, which can be fully edited. The pro version also lets you customize the incoming call notification bubble, so that you can change its size, include photo ID, and more. The lite version costs $15, and the pro version costs $35. I'd give it a try, but I personally <i>always</i> keep my i700 on vibrate. ;)

I believe this is the same SW as MY|PHONE|PROFILES, which I purchased a few months ago and which totally screwed up my PPCPE so that I had to hard reset it :evil:

I believe that was version 3 back then, so this version 5 may actually work this time. But I think I'll wait for some reviews from others before I give it another try...

Ye, I know. Although I do not have all PPC Phone Edition devices available now or announced, with a little help of my friend from the World I checked as many equipment as we found. I noticed that operating systems, always signed as WM2003 or PPC2002 are different a little, specially in phone features. This is the problem. Others software which change ballooon message or give caller's photo have the same problems.

I tried to build-in fixes for all know versions. But I cannot guarante of course. If I will get in touch next devices I will improve this program.

PLEASE TEST. USE TRIAL VERSION.

Even when not all feaures will work correctly, I think this program is worth to use with Phone Edition. And if you will give me feedback about your device and problems I will put more fixes.

$35 is a bit much for this limited function application. Thats more than pocket-informant for e.g.

It should be compared to v2r's caller2picture, which is only $15, and does much the same thing (without the profiles)

Now if it was a fully functional dialler replacement that emulated a normal mobile phone, I would consider paying $35 for it (as long as I can do everything with one hand, and make handsfree voicedailed calls from my bluetooth headset, and select a number from my contacts and dial it, with only one hand, like you can do with a normal mobile phone).

Take the above as a coding challenge (I understand UI's can not be trademarked, patented or copyrighted (e.g apple vs microsoft) so it should be legal to copy symbian or nokia).

I suggest the price for just selecting profiles should be revised to $5, and maybe $10 for the picture pop-ups, at which point I would consider buying it.

BTW, it does indeed show up as $14.95 on PocketGear, but not Handango -- it shows up as $19.99 on the latter. You might want to fix that...

So far, the app works well. One thing you may want to look at: on the control panel (settings) screen, the Phone Profiles option has no icon on my screen.

I'll do a mini-review of it for the users at pdaphonehome.com in the i700 forum. So far, I've had the most success with this app over Caller2Picture or others.

Plus, $35 is a lot, but it does include custom pics for incoming calls, along with skinnable pop-ups, among the other ring controls and profile options. Borders on that 'overpriced' edge, where maybe $29 would have been easier to pay.

Dangerwit I look forward to the review. The last time this came out other I700 users had issues and I am not inclined to have problems again. So lets see what it can do.

As Ive said previously, why do people keep re-inventing the wheel. Why not just copy a well-known phone interface as closely as possible, and be done with it?

I was trying to be redundant but I would prefer a single app that has multiple functions that plays well together. Maybe a skin manager would be the better request in this app.

Unfortunately the only Phone Dialer Skin mgr I have found was really designed for the XDA adn the vast majority of skins are for, the XDA. The few I700 skins I have found are not what I want and they are too few. I would pay for a decent skin dialer and skins for the I700.

I agree with SiliconAddict: I was one of the first to purchase it on my xda but had a lot of troubles with it. Now you have a new version for a LOT of money!

I Think you should evaluate your product properly before charging!

I screwed up my xdaI and version 3.x also freezed my xda II! I think this is bad code....... :evil:

I've installed this and tried to use it, but once turning it on, I find it has disabled my ppc.

When I turn on my pocket pc now, it turns back off, instantly. I see the screen for a second or so, then it turns off again. I can't even get in to turn the software back off. Jgui, any suggestions on how I can fix this problem?

I have spent some time testing this software and also found it to be quite buggy. The customisation is great and nice graphics, but it is just too unreliable to remain on my device.
