Do anybody knows a good/simple calculator replacement?

I got Calc98 at some point, but I haven't used it in a long while.

Handango currently lists the item as "free"... so why not give it a shot!

I like the flexibility and power of Omnisolve. A little pricey, but the customer support is top-notch!

I use...
Aidem Engineering Calculator (http://www.aidem.com.tw/English/software_calculator.htm) a scientific calculator... and
Flow Simulation Ltd. Calc98 (http://www.calculator.org/CalcArm.html) (click HERE (http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=1&platformId=2&productType=2&productId=29521&sectionId=0&catalog=30) for alternate download site)

I like CalcNOW... but it is a RPN calculator... it may or may not work for you... but it is free as well if you go to PPCFreeware there are quite a few to choose from.

I like Calc98. Great freebie.

Get it here:

http://www.calculator.org/

Very customize-able and comes w/ built-in unit convertor. Change number button sizes, include or exclude function button rows, enlarge or decrease display window, etc.

Or Tom Boldt's RPN calculator from http://members.rogers.com/tpboldt/rpncalc.html, also freeware. It has lots of functions, conversions, matrix/vector functions.

RealCalculator has a nice function plotter, but is not RPN. :( The somewhat simplified version is freeware.

Another vote here for Calc98.

I've tweaked the size of the buttons to make it easier to use without a stylus.

Thanks for all the ideas! I'm currently trying Calc98, and for the price (Free) it very good so far.

I also resized the buttons.

Thanks again!

My belated thoughts on this topic:

I am a fan of RPN. Calc 98 and CoolCalc provide for algegraic or RPN entry, and I highly recommend either calculator.

The free version of Calc98 has a bug when used with the 2002 (and probably 2003) versions of Microsoft's Pocket PC software. From the Calc98 FAQ at calculator.org:

"Q8: Why do the menu captions go funny on Pocket PC 2002?

"A: There is a bug in Calc98 Version 5.3 which causes this problem on Pocket PC 2002. This version was developed before Pocket PC 2002 was available - the problem will be fixed in the next version."

You can purchase the corrected version (5.6) on a CD that also contains versions for Windows, etc., but the price is rather hefty -- $19.50 plus $6.95 for shipping and handling. A download of Version 5.6 is presently unavailable.

(I purchased the CD because I like the calculator and wanted to support the developer.)

Mmmm, I tried CalcNOW - very fast so I love it on my underclocked h1910. Calc98 is very slow at starting up.

Are you familiar with Clear Speed (http://revolution.cx/speed/speed.htm)? I use it and it solves the slow 1910 processor problem for most of my needs.

Is there a BUSINESS calculator for the PPC?

Thanks for the suggestion. I use Turbo Tray (from the same web-site) set at 100 MHz.

Re. business calculator: If you can use RPN, Tom Boldts RPN has time-value-of-money. Calc98 (both RPN and algebraic) has a finance mode with some functions.

A warning to all those with h1910s using any kind of speed booster. DON'T RUN YOUR PPC AT 400MHZ!!! It will lock up and only a hard reset will clear the problem.

FamousDavis,

I use Pocket 12C by lygea, which, as it's name suggests, is an emulation of an HP 12C calculator. It is a great program that is actually faster and better than the original. Very reasonable at $12.99.

I'm a former Palm user, I've just bought a Toshiba e405 (hasn't arrived yet), and one of the few things that I'm going to miss very much from the Palm world is the very powerful PowerOne Graph Calculator, a super scientific-finance-equation solver-graphing calculator made by a company called Inifity Softworks. PowerOne Graph has most of the functions of a HP 48 calc (less the programming ability)

Is there something like PowerOne Graph for the PocketPC ??? For some weird reason InfinitySW doesn't have a version for PocketPC of this calculator, although the do have a PocketPC version of the PowerOne Finance calc.

Thanks.

I don't know how Clear Speed works, but I've used for nearly as long as I've owned by 1910, and it's worked flawlessly, even at the fastest setting.

Were you using Clear Speed, too? Or some other program?

Thanks for the tip. :) I've used the HP 17BII business calculator for years (it got me through my Financial Management class), so what I'd love to find is a "Pocket 17B" program!

Uh, not Clear Speed. I think it was TurboTray (http://elevatedstudios.com/pocket)

It worked for a little while but then locked up and a soft reset wouldn't fix it. I guess 400MHz was just a tad too fast for the hardware.

Wow! I am holding Pocket 12C up next to my hp-12C calculator - exactly the same except it is 10000 times faster at iterations. Now where is my hp-15C?

Just a shame one cannot save named programs on it! On my Palm Tungsten T, I have a programmable calculator called MathU Pro, which allows me to reprogram the keys and save named programs. Is there a scientific calculator for PPC's that allows this?

Try:
RDCalc (its own language) or
Napier (vbscript) or
Math Tablet (its own language and reprogrammable keys)

I'm sure there are many others...

Thanks, crm - RDcalc looks nice, but I prefer RPN. I will have a go at the two other ones later this week.
