Optimum picture resolution?

Okay being new to a PDA I want to know a couple of things.First off let me tell you I am an avid picture taker with my digital camera and I always capture the picture in the highest resolution 1600x1200 and then I crop the original and save it as another resolution when sending it out.\

With this being said what is the BEST resolution to size ratio for jpg files kept to diaply on a Pocket PC?

Basically I want good quality with a full display on the screen. I have tried fiddeling around with it but I'm not sure of what the Standard screen display resolution is on my Ipaq 2215.

Also as a side note is there better/more robust picture viewing software out besides the integrated pictures or Ipaq Iamge viewer?

I usually resize my photos to 320x240. This fits just right on the screen of my 2215 when it is turned sideways.

I've used two different picture programs that I've really liked. One is Resco Picture Viewer (http://www.resco-net.com/PicView.asp) and the other is ACDC Mobile Image Viewer (http://www.acdsystems.com/English/Products/WinCE/index.htm). Of the two, I prefer Resco

Also, I love this Powertoy (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp) from Microsoft. It lets you just right-click on an image an select to resize it to whatever resolution you want.

Being that your screen on your Hp2215 displays at 320x240 it should be an easy question to answer...

320x240 is the way to go if you want to view the entire picture on your pda screen. A 3MP picture viewed 'fit to screen' (as in temporarily resized so the entire picture is viewable) looks almost exactly the same as the 320x240 shot. The difference is larger resolutions will allow you to zoom/magnify parts of the image (e.g. someone's face) without the picture appearing so blurry.

However, I would have to agree that copying 3MP pictures onto your device is a terrible waste of storage space :mrgreen: . If you're serious about viewing digicam photo's on your pda i would also strongly suggest looking at Resco Picture Viewer. This allows you to create photo albums to view on your device as well as having a plugin that automatically optimizes your photo's to 320x240 size.

Do keep the originals safe though as if you accidently delete the 3MP photo's... it's impossible to convert a 320x240 back into a 1600x1200 picture.
