anybody know why this happens or a better program to use? I hear a zap noise and the ppc turns off and freezes when i try to use it

It is most likely because the 1945 doesn't have consumer level ir. That is it is not designed to be used as a remote control, you have to get a different PPC to do that.
I have a 1945 as well, and I tried to use a remote control app myself, just to see if it would work, and of course it just crashed my PPC, in a similar way as yours.
