Does anyone have one of these cards? I am curious to know if they are experiencing the same problems as the 256MB cards. Best Buy has the 512MB for $169.99 (US) along with a $40.00 mail-in rebate, so that makes it $129.99. Not as good as the Sears sale, but close enough for me to want to get one.

Thoughts?

The opinions on this are going to be very diverse. I'm one of the many folks who have been fortunate enough to not have experienced any problems with Sandisk. The 512 SD is my current "workhorse" card, though I have owned 128 & 256 SD as well as 1GB CF, also with no problems.

I got one of these dogs for my Ipaq 4355 last week, copied a few dozen mp3's and a Family Guy episode onto it, no sweat. I tried to take off some of the tunes and add some more today, and now the card isn't recognized in the Ipaq or on a Pc with the card reader. I can't even format the damn thing. Naturally CompUSA doesn't want to hear about it, and Sandisk doesn't have a tech support line on the weekends. Yes, I bought it because of the price, now I wish I'd spent a few bucks more and gotten a reliable card.

Welcome to the site redroader.

What you are experiencing is what I want to avoid. I think I am going to spend rthe extra dough and get one of the better brands.

Dave, I bought a Kingston 512MB SD card from eCost. They are currently selling it for $144.00 (a $10.00 MIR makesw it even better).

If you are concerned about Sandisk, the Kingston is a good alternative. The cards are made in Japan and Japanese cards seem to be more reliable than those from Taiwan or China.

Here's the page where the offer is located http://www.ecost.com/ecost/ecsplash/shop/detail.asp?dpno=295990

They also have free ground shipping or overnight for only ten dollars.

Gotta chime in here, I bought a 512 Sandisk and just like most have had problems with it. It reads fine in my PPC and my camera, but my PC card reader wont recognize it. I exchanged it for another one today so will see if the problem continues.

Do a search on Sandisk and their SD problems on Google, you will be rather surprised. Go with the Kingston.

Since December 2nd, I've been using the SanDisk 512 MB SD card I got at Sears with no problems. I still keep a backup copy on my hard drive of all data on the card due to the number of times I've had problems with SanDisk cards in the past. I also keep a duplicate copy of "critical" files such as Mapopolis (http://www.mapopolis.com) maps on a spare SD card in my case (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/articles.php?action=expand,10394). Right now, the 256 MB SanDisk card I'd been using prior to getting the 512 MB is used to hold the approximately 180 MB Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:TomeRaider_database) file as well as maps and a couple e-books.

I vowed to never purchase a SanDisk product again, but at $89 (with brother's employee discount,) I simply couldn't pass it up. I am fully expecting the card to fail at some point, and have put the receipt and warranty information in a file in case it's needed.

Hi dh. Thanks for the Kingston link. I will be checking that out I think instead of the SanDisk.

A followup to my saga: after hearing the busy signal for most of the day, I finally got through to Sandisk. They are sending me a UPS or FedEx envelope to mail my 512 MB SD card in, and once received, they are supposed to be providing me with a replacement. I really hope the new card is a good one!

eCOST has 512MB Kingston SD for $139 minus $10 rebate. I think they ship for free.
