So I've been looking to get a copy of Microsoft OneNote. It normally costs $200, though I have a $100 rebate that I got when I bought Office 2003. Now I've been looking for better prices online, and found a few. CDW had it for like $100, but it seemed like it was a bulk license. Now Gateway (http://accessories.gateway.com/AccessoryStore/Software_316896/Business+_A1_+Home+Office_316897/Word+Processing_381972/1531179_proddetail.htm?ref=merch) seems to be selling it for $49.99. Is this right? There seems to be nothing about bulk licenses, or it being an educational version (which costs $50 too).

This is a really good price. In fact, if I got this and sent in my $100 rebate, I'd make $50. So does there seem to be anything wrong with it? I'm sure I can trust Gateway not to sell warez or anything, so that's not an issue. But am I missing anything? I guess I could try calling them and asking them, but I have a sore throat, and my voice is hoarse, so I'd rather not... ;)

After a quick bit of searching, I belive the product they are showing (SKU S26-00163) is for the academic version, althought it doesn't appear to be advertised as such on Gateway's page. I'm assuming this is an oversite on their part.

Yeah, I think you're right.. the SKU for the retail one does seem to be different, too. Thanks for finding that though, probably saved me some hassle... :)

Err... Even better, visit Ebay and pay $40 for a new unopened pro one... :?:

Actually, this seems an opportune moment to ask what the differences between these things are - I just had a trawl out of curiousity, and there is the 'Academic', the 'OEM', etc etc etc... Some are obviously, shall we say, "Grey" imports, but others appear to be authentic... :?:

Thanks. Though the least I've seen it for on eBay is like $60, which is close enough to paying $180 from Amazon and getting $100 back from my Office 2003 rebate, which would make it $80 total, for me to just buy it new.
Where did you see it for $40?

Ah, yeah. So at the current bid, it's the equivalent of about US$61.
Thanks anyway though... :)

I saw a Microserf do a demo of OneNote - VERY cool! If I had a decent laptop or tablet PC I would use every day to take notes and organize my thoughts (both of them  ).

A very cool product. Is $49.99 for academic pricing normal?

Yup, $50 if you're a college student (not K-12).
They apparently even sell copies at some college libraries, but you can buy it online at places like Academic Superstore (www.academicsuperstore.com) or Creation Engine (www.creationengine.com)...

Cool! Once we get "Laptop Thoughts" up and going maybe I can get a review unit (to keep). :D

Merry Christmas, everyone!
